Gylt Basement Glitch No Key In Canary Cage or Ledge

Hello, I am near the end of the game in the Basement level of the school and one of the keys simply is not there. After wandering around for hours I looked up a Youtube video to see where I went wrong because I was stuck. THE KEY IS SIMPLY NOT THERE. There is a lock with 3 keys. One of the locks is down in the mine. After shining the light on the canary the key is supposed to fall out and you retrieve it by crawling through a shaft and the key is there on the ledge. THE KEY IS NOT THERE. I cant do anything else without the key. Any ideas? Is there a way to start the game at a previous point? Please help!!!!!
