Local Multi player from one account

Can I play with another person locally; two controller set up, same screen, one account? Or, does Google require two accounts?

Do you have to have two accounts, to play any multi-player locally? Or, can you play off of one account? As an example; can I play my son in one game, with two controllers, on the same screen, all from my one account?

Any news on this? My son & I have always played games together and I'm not purchasing multiple times on anything, to get set up. This is a necessity and should be priority A#1.
