Stadia Controller on Android

After linking my Stadia controller wirelessly to my Galaxy S6 tablet inside the Stadia app I get only basic functionality. The controller cannot be used to navigate the app itself and the headphone/microphone will not funtion. The controller will offer basic controls for a game that is opened via touch control from the tablet, but cannot be used to start the game. Is this normal?
