Controller perpetually plugged in

I have a desktop computer that I use for playing playing Stadia and other games. It has a USB cable connected to it into which I plug a Stadia controller. Even when I'm not using the computer and it's in sleep mode, it is apparently still supplying power to the Stadia controller, as the Stadia button always glows white while it's plugged in.

Is it a bad idea to keep the Stadia controller perpetually plugged in like this? (i.e., will it damage the controller to be perpetually charging, or is it wasting a substantial amount energy to have the Stadia controller light aways on?)
