Use Google Play gift card on Family Member purchase

My Son got a Stadia controller for Christmas and a Google Play card. We added the gift card balance to the family payment options. He has requested the purchase of a game which has come through to me on the Family Link app for approval but when I go through to complete the purchase I don't have the option to use the Google Play balance (it only offers the credit card on the account as an option).

So my question is: how does my son use the Google Play balance to purchase Stadia games?

I've seen possible solutions involving the Stadia app on an Android phone but we do not have an Android phone.

If you do not have an Android phone, I don't think you are able to select the Google Play Balance for your son.

Otherwise you can only use the family payment method (credit card).

Thanks for the info Chufu. Does anyone know if Google will be adding this function on the iOS app any time soon?
