Yes i agree it sounds wrong to get advice to pull it out after every use. If this was right then it should had stand as a warning in the manual. Anyway i got a good advice how i can turn it on and off, by using a smart plug in the wall outlet running on wifi, then you can connect the power plug to Google home app and turn it on and off if you want. I have owned it for 3 days now and like you said no issues at all to keep it on for 24/7 Make sence what you saying about keeping it on, no downtime or waiting just cast when you want without turning it on.

I just chatted with a helpful person at Google customer support.

They say it’s not possible to turn it off without pulling out the power cord.

And they say i must do it when im done using it to not cause overheating.

This is not a good solution for me since my lg oled TV reset my pics settings everytime i remove it.
And its’s hassle to plug out the power everytime.

They also said i could power it up from a cable used in USB port on my TV. That would make it shut off when TV shut off, but then i must only use wifi.....

The manual on Google page say you must only power it with the adapter, power it with USB from TV do not work.

Im curious to hear what you guys doing with it and some thoughts.

Why not make a sleep mode function in the Google home app in the first place..

The nature of Chromecast is that it is always available to be cast to, and it never turns off. It uses extremely little electricity, only a few watts so this isn't really a problem in my opinion. If the LED bothers you, I'd suggest cutting a tiny square of electrical tape and just covering it up.

By powering it off, it just makes it much more inconvenient to use and doesn't really benefit you. I'm surprised you were advised to turn it off to prevent overheating... there is no requirement to do this. I have multiple Chromecast Ultras that I have left plugged in doing their thing for months on end without touching them and have never had an issue.
