Google Stadia do not run without errors anymore

Hello Google Stadia Community,

sadly my User Experience decreases over the time the more I use Google Stadia and now I am about to buy a PS4 to continue my loved Game The Crew 2.

I started using Google Stadia a few month ago during the second lockdown in Germany and I was really happy. Because I have a MacBook and no PS4 or XBOX, Google Stadia was a really good choice.
Since then my internet is via cable from our local cable provider (Vodafone) with 700 MBits down and 50 MBits uplink ping is about 15-50ms.
My connection is pretty stable and I am 4-5hrs per day in some video conferences from home so I really need a stable connection for my work.

The first game I bought for me and my Kids was: The Crew 2 Gold Edition and we were pretty happy with that game. The first month was without any errors and everything was fine. After a while the first errors were not so bad so the game just stopped working every hour. So this was not a big deal.

After a while it happened sometimes that the game just closed after 15 mins. But okay sometimes really annoying..

The real problems started with another bug I got after a while. Sometimes the game just keeps the last control I used, for e.g. drive forward and drive left and it hangs for 10-20 secs. So the game works normally the car is still driving or making accidents (so internet connection work) but I cannot control the car anymore. The car keeps driving in one direction and no control works for a few seconds. This bug got me really angry because I failed a lot of game attempts sometimes when I finished 99% of the game....

This bug occurs sometimes often (every 5 mins), sometimes I could play for 45mins - 1h without any of these bugs.

And now since two weeks Google Stadia is really unplayable anymore for me. The game closes every 5-10mins (rarely I can play more then 30mins) and the bug where I lose control occurs also in the same pace.

Because the game runs in the cloud I hoped that I get rid of the problems automatically but now I really lost my hope.
First I was angry and canceled the pro membership.

It is somehow possible to win a race but I now need 5-20 attempts to win a race because of the bugs.
I tested Google Stadia on different devices and Operating Systems and also on different locations and still get the same bugs.

I dont find any similar problems in The Crew 2. Whats really curious is that these problem came over time. If they would be there since the beginning I maybe would just stop using it. Now I have some sort of progression in the game and would really love to play it. My kids can't wait to continue the story with me..

Maybe I can get some help here. I would really love to stay on Stadia.

Hello @Meschkov,

Sorry to hear your experience is getting worse. Stadia is very depended on the quality of your home network.
Could you provide some more information about your current home network?

Are you using a Fritzbox or a Netgear for example? Did you try a restart of your router/modem?
Which devices are you using to play on and how are these connected with the internet?
Few examples:

Chromecast Ultra works best a ethernet cable connection or WiFi 5GHz
Smartphone WiFi
Mac with WiFi 5GHz or 2.4GHz?

And what happens when the game "crashes" does Stadia just stop and if you start the game again does it continue the session or really start a new session?

Sorry lot of questions but if you can answer some of the question maybe we can get things solved.

Hey @RXShorty,

so at home I have a FritzBox Router for cable internet https://en.avm.de/products/fritzbox/fritzbox-6490-cable/ and as mentioned before something about 700 MBits downlink and 50 up and I use 5GHz Wifi. The router is about 2 meters away from me without any distractions. For troubleshooting reasons I also played Stadia at home with my Thinkpad, running Linux, connected to Ethernet and got the same problems. My regular machine is a MacBook Pro 2020 M1.

I work in Frankfurt Airport and there we have an internal network without any limitations for our Devteam with 100MBits up and down, with a really good latency (around 10ms) and there I have the same problems.

When the game crashes, the most times the session get restored. Sometimes a new session is starting after a crash.

Sometimes I think maybe the machine on which the game runs has some sort of error or something but there is no way to reinitialize the game.

Hmm it would be really nice if the problems get at least a bit better to the old level.

Hello @Meschkov,

The error code you are getting is this with all games or just with The Crew 2?

It doesn't look like a connectivity issue but a game breaking bug...
