I do like this answer, but I would also consider starting out playing with Crayta. It has a lot of pre-canned graphical and behavioral options, but you can also dig into the Lua code and add some more customization. It would be a good introduction to game development prior to diving into something like Unity (which will be required at some point).

Hi All

I am an experienced developer, but I have not written a game before. Does anyone know if there is a cloud-based sandbox development environment where I can train myself and experiment with game development?

The end goal is to develop a Stadia game.

Kind Regards,

Cornelius

No dev kits out in the wild that we are aware of yet. Assuming it will be that way for several years or permanently as they can simply deny access and track access over the web. If you are interested in being a Stadia dev, here is the website where you can apply: https://stadia.dev/intl/en_us/apply/ .

Also, Stadia does support porting over games from all developing applications like Epic and Unity, so perhaps one of those groups has a cloud-based development/training. Also if you want to do a video training series, I've checked out Udemy, albeit come back to it every now and again which is nice about video training course.

Unity 2D Developer Course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101WYyBEoTeFpQQ30=/

Unity 3D Developer Course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101XCeBEoTeFpQQ30=/

Just some ideas!

I don't have a link right now, but when 3dbuzz.com closed down they did a massive data dump to a torrent site and made everything free. They had some great materials and basically had a class where they developed a game from the ground up utilizing the Unity game engine. You should check it out sometime.

If you can't find the link then let me know. I can send you the torrent file directly. Just a fair warning though, it was a MASSIVE data dump so expect it to take some time to download. Has a lot of graphics/3d design material in it to.
