Stadia only lags on Pixel Slate

I have an i5 Pixel slate and I was thrilled to use it for Stadia but for some reason it's the only device that Stadia will lag TERRIBLY on. 10 -15 minutes into gameplay and it will freeze up and kick me out of the game. None of my other devices do that. Any fix for this I can try?

@Tapatio I've got an i5 Pixelbook and an m3 Slate and haven't encountered that on either device.

Have you tried resetting your browser settings and/or using the Slate as a guest to help rule out any profile issues?

Yeah I tried that and it didn't work. Gonna factory reset and downscale my display settings and see if that helps at all.

Hello,

i tried google stadia on my Pixel Slate I5, still have huge lag.

I reset my tablet, but the problem persists.

I am using a DualShock 4 bluetooth controller, is that my problem?
I have no other controller.

@codesplice what do you use as a controller?

@CarlistRieekan I use the Stadia controller, and the experience is similarly good whether that's connected via USB or to WiFi.

What sort of lag are you seeing? Is it input lag or is the video stuttering?

it's the video that stutters, like I'm using an old PC to play games in too high a resolution.

I tried in 4K, 1080P, 720P mode the problem is still there.

I have a good 400 Mbps / 50 mbps internet connection.

I did the test last night without a controller directly with the keyboard I still have the same problem.

I have as indicated above reset my tablet, disable all Chrome extensions.

use chrome in inconito mode

use a guest session.
I don't understand why I have a lag like that.

@CarlistRieekan What can you tell me about your WiFi network? Is it a single node or a mesh/repeater/extender setup? What band and channel is it on? Are there any other nearby networks which might be overlapping?

following a flaw in the intel CPUs and since version 74 of chromeos it disables hyper-treading

this is much better now some small lag but now playable even in 4K

@CarlistRieekan Interesting, I'm glad that worked for you! My i3 Slate (on m85 Beta) shows that flag set to "Default" yet I haven't encountered stuttering or lag. Very weird.

I must say I searched the web for a long time to find this.
i don't know if this affects all intel cpu or only certain model.
I'm on the Slate with the I5

finally last night I played 1 hour and the experience was really much better.

some latency sometimes but far from my initial experience.

at least if my little post helped someone with the same problem.

I have been an IT technician for 16 years so I did several tests before coming here!

Hey guys, I have a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook with the 10th gen i5 that's having the same issue:

I tried the Hyper Threading toggle, but still running into the same issue where the CPU is maxing out about 5 min in and causing Stadia to be unplayable. Any other thoughts on why this may be occurring?

@TheGuyver It's interesting that several users are having the exact same issue on the exact same hardware, and I agree with your assessment that something seems to be spiking the CPU load when rendering 4k. Unfortunately I'm not sure what to do with that information. You could reach out to Stadia and Samsung support to see if they have any ideas.

Otherwise this may need to get addressed from the development side of things. You can use the in-app feedback option to report this to the Stadia developers, and send feedback to the Chrome OS team as well. You might even consider opening a bug for this at https://crbug.com/new.

@codesplice Agreed, it's hit or miss all over the place. As a FYI, I have an open ticket for this with Stadia support already, but it's been a few weeks without any sort of response. I need to go open something up with Samsung, but their support options leave a little to be desired over there in terms of easy contact methods.

I am hoping that ultimately this is just a combination of new hardware paired with new ChromeOS builds that will sort itself out with future updates, but for the nearterm it's a first world problem annoyance. I can go plan on my Chromecast in 4k and it works fantastic.
