Hi @jasko,

Doing a bit of searching online I found that chrome video hardware support has been lacking, to say the least, since before 2019.

I found an article from 2014 saying "ENABLE HARDWARE ACCELERATION IN CHROME / CHROMIUM BROWSER"

http://www.webupd8.org/2014/01/enable-hardware-acceleration-in-chrome.html

I have to agree with @Ivan with trying to reach out to the chrome team and let them know of this problem. I myself used linux before and I could not get hardware acceleration enabled. I don't use linux that often to play on stadia. I normally use it for mostly development

Would you play stadia at 720p or 480p? It looks horrible.

I revisited stadia today hoping after a long break that they'd have gotten hardware-accelerated video decoding working on linux. It doesn't seem like they do, so we're stuck with software-decoded, low-quality stadia streams.

Bonkers. Does this tie into some of the things I read about organizational support shifting/decreasing for stadia at Google? Maybe this is never going to happen? I guess I just want to make sure before I write it off.

https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/10/hardware-acceleration-chrome-linux

@jasko I've never run Stadia on Linux, so personally can't give useful input. However, I came across this Reddit thread and the user claims they're able to run 4k. Perhaps this is something that you can try?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/g8zvfs/comment/foqlgof/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

It might also be worth to look at other comments on this post and see if there's you can try.

As for Chrome browser on Linux not supporting hardware-accelerated video decoding, I would I assume this is just limitation of the browser in general (not only Stadia is impacted). Perhaps it's worth it to bring up the issue in Chrome help community as well:

https://support.google.com/chrome/community

Hope you'll be able to find solution/workaround soon.
