5.1 problem

Hello,

I have a headphone

I can't get 5.1 on my Stadia games on chrome from Windows.
By USB DAC it does not recognize 5.1.
Do I have to connect several jacks of my Asus Z87 Extreme4 motherboard?

PS: Do you know if one day the controller will be able to release 5.1 on the chromecast or is it impossible?

Hello @francois142,

On the support page of Stadia it doesnt show it should give you 5.1 sounds when playing on Chrome.
So I think it is not supported as of now.

I stand corrected, 5.1 surround should be available on Chrome.

@francois142 your support link somehow shows it supports 5.1 but if you follow the troubleshoot guide the last option is that they refer to cabling and hdmi 2.0 port that should be weird on a pc... But you are right it should be possible since April last year.

Do you have a 5.1 compatible device on your PC? Looks like a USB DAC is a no go? What device are you using for sounds? Speakers or a headset?

About your question about the audio through the Stadia controller I am not sure it is possible with the fitted hardware in the controller.

- For the sound on PC I just have my motherboard.

- For the chromecast, I think my screen need a passthough or something like that. Am I right ?

When you plug your headset into your PC, does windows actually recognize it as having 5.1 input channels? When you go to the properties of your headset sound output device, it needs to report more than two channels. The vast majority of "surround" headphones only take stereo input and then virtualize it into a fake surround sound. In this case, Stadia itself isn't going to be sending a 5.1 audio stream over since it'll only see your PC capable of stereo.

Hi @francois142,

I am not sure which headset it is and if it should work.
But if you can enable it for the rest of your software it should be fine I guess.

And for the Chromecast Ultra you are correct. The monitor or TV needs to send the signal to surround set.
Which needs a HDMI 2.0 port at least.

Do you also have a Pro subscription? This is needed to get surround and 4K support.

Well, it's a virtual surround. Windows can't detect it like a 7.1 system.

So I can't have a real 5.1.
