Update- I realized that the only time this problem occurred was at night. The variable for me was the baby monitor. If it was nearby it was interfering with my wifi connection and garbling the sound. The closer it was to my setup the worse it was. I’m sure if I had a better router that wouldn’t happen but at least now I know. 
Update on my fix. I chatted with support and they suggested when I do a factory reset I do it using the button on the Chromecast ultra. That did the trick. Before, I reset the Chromecast via the goog... See more...
Update on my fix. I chatted with support and they suggested when I do a factory reset I do it using the button on the Chromecast ultra. That did the trick. Before, I reset the Chromecast via the google home app. They also suggested unplugging the Chromecast for a few minutes. I did both and it’s working fine again.
