In addition to the exciting games recently announced for Stadia, a new series is making its way to players next week. On September 22, experience the top-down action and thumping soundtrack within Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number when they make their way to the Stadia store for purchase. Take control of a mysterious antihero who is on a mission to rid Miami of a shady underworld enterprise of thugs and criminals. Hotline Miami Developer: Dennaton Games Publisher: Devolver Digital Hotline Miami is a high-octane action game overflowing with raw brutality, hard-boiled gunplay and close combat. Set in an alternative 1989 Miami, you will assume the role of a mysterious antihero on a rampage against the shady underworld at the behest of voices on your answering machine. Soon you'll find yourself struggling to get a grip of what is going on and why you are prone to these acts of violence. Rely on your wits to choreograph your way through seemingly impossible situations as you constantly find yourself outnumbered by vicious enemies. The action is unrelenting and every shot is deadly so each move must be quick and decisive if you hope to survive and unveil the sinister forces driving the violence. Hotline Miami’s unmistakable visual style, a driving soundtrack, and a surreal chain of events will have you question your own thirst for action while pushing you to the limits with a brutally unforgiving challenge. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Developer: Dennaton Games Publisher: Devolver Digital Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution in the original game. Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon glow. Blistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and actions are introduced throughout the struggle. Let the striking colors of an unmistakable visual style wash over as you meticulously cut down those that would stand between you and the ultimate meaning behind the story. This is the finale, this is the unquestionable end. Features: Relentless Hostilities: Adjust combat techniques as the narrative shifts between factions and brings unique variations to a familiar approach along with new weapons, movements, and melee attacks. Enthralling Soundtrack: Over forty pounding tracks from dozens of artists punctuate the savage conflict and bring the larger scale of your actions into focus. New artists join returning favorites like M|O|O|N, Perturbator, Jasper Byrne, Scattle, and El Huervo for an incredible audio massacre. ----------------------------------------------------- More games are coming to Stadia this year, including Immortals Fenyx Rising, Baldur's Gate III, Cyberpunk 2077, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Serious Sam 4 reignites the classic FPS series in a high-powered prequel to Serious Sam 3: BFE, loaded with an explosive arsenal, intergalactic carnage, and perfectly timed one-liners. With humanity under siege in an invasion of Earth, lead the resistance as Sam ‘Serious’ Stone when Serious Sam 4 arrives for purchase on the Stadia store on September 24. We caught up with Davor Hunski at Croteam to get the scoop on what to expect when Serious Sam 4 arrives on Stadia. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey! Can you introduce yourself and Croteam? Sure thing - I’m Davor Hunski, Chief Creative Officer at Croteam. Croteam is a veteran indie studio from Croatia. We have started in the proverbial garage (actually, it was a small studio apartment with no AC) more than 27 years ago, and we've been going strong ever since. For the most part, we are known as the authors of the hectic over-the-top first-person shooter series Serious Sam and the much calmer and relaxing award-winning puzzle game The Talos Principle. What about Stadia makes you excited to bring Serious Sam 4 to players? We aren't just a game-dev company. We like to think of ourselves as a tech company as well. After all, we have been developing our own game engine technology from the very beginning. We always love to explore new technologies, and just like we got excited when we first saw VR, we got excited when we first started thinking about developing a game for a streaming platform like Stadia. Stadia changes the way we play games. You power on your TV or start up your browser, pick up a controller, and play. No downloads, no updates, no fuss. It's simple, just like our take on the action-shooter genre. Serious Sam and Stadia are a perfect fit when you look at it that way. For both experienced fans of the series as well as for new players, what should we expect to see in terms of the story and gameplay? In short, a lot! For one, this time around, we have a pair of excellent writers who have penned a story worthy of an action blockbuster. This is a long-overdue gift to those fans who have always been interested in the Serious Sam lore. With that said, Serious Sam 4 is still the same experience you'd expect it to be. It's not a story-driven game. It's absolutely gameplay driven, and that's where it shines. We didn't want to reinvent the wheel, so the gameplay will be recognizable from the moment you jump in. Serious Sam 4 is all about dancing with the enemies and finding the right weapon for the job in any given situation. It's still about fighting an unimaginable number of monsters and enjoying the chaos.   How big is Serious Sam 4 compared to its predecessors? Everything in Serious Sam 4 is bigger than it ever was. The levels are bigger, the hordes are bigger, and the bosses are bigger. We have taken the Serious Sam formula and cranked it up to 11. That’s hype. Is there an exciting moment from the game that you can tease for us? There are many, and they start happening on the streets of Rome, right at the beginning. Players can expect to wreak havoc and dispose of numerous monsters throughout the game while using some of the series' craziest weapons — like a giant pirate cannon, a rocket-propelled chainsaw, or a rocket launcher which shoots homing missiles. Sam will be able to dual-wield weapons this time, so you can grab a rocket launcher in one hand and an auto-shotgun in the other, and destroy everything around you. You'll ride a heavily modified popemobile, shoot at thousands of enemies, and use special gadgets like the mini-nuke or time-warp. Excitement will never end; we can promise that much. Are there any new features that you are excited to bring to the franchise? The weapon upgrade system. It takes the fighting to the next level. We're not talking about an elaborate upgrades system with crafting and whatnot. Instead, we have opted for a simple design that allows the players to add extra depth to the combat by unlocking alternate fire modes. For example, with an attachment, you can upgrade your traditional laser weapon with a powerful beam that pierces through anything you shoot at and shreds it to pieces.

As we shared earlier this week, SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE will arrive First on Stadia on September 1. With this brand new entrant to the legendary franchise, Bomberman is as exciting as ever with many characters to choose from and familiar power ups. Use everything you have at your disposal as you strategize and scurry your way through 64-player battles to win the ultimate prize - being Bomber One! We chatted with Tatsunori Matsuo and Takuya Sokukawa at Konami to hear more about the upcoming launch of SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE on Stadia. ------------------------------------------------------------- Hey! Could you introduce yourself and your team? TM: I’m Tatsunori Matsuo, and I am the Producer of SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE. This is my first time getting involved in this series, but my team is chock full of original staff members that worked on SUPER BOMBERMAN R and we have been very motivated to develop this game. TS: I am the Game Director, Takuya Sokukawa. I was involved in the development of SUPER BOMBERMAN R and this makes it my second time having worked on this series. What makes SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE different from other Bomberman titles? TM: What makes this game the most unique out of the series is the battle royale type mode called ‘Battle 64’, where players battle it out with up to 64 players simultaneously online. We were able to evolve the original game experience of Bomberman from being a game you enjoyed with your close family and friends to now an online experience where you can battle with anyone from around the world. Why are you excited to develop on Stadia? TM: In bringing our game to Stadia, I’m most excited about the Crowd Play feature where you can join a streamer’s game directly from the YouTube page. I can’t wait to see new online communities coming together through Bomberman. TS: I’m personally a huge gamer, and one of my lifelong struggles is having to wait to get back to my house to be able to play my high quality games. Whenever I visit my hometown, I would even go out to buy the latest consoles so that I can play games. As long as you have a browser, you can get that gaming experience as if you were at home wherever you want, so I’m really stoked not only for Stadia, but also for the opportunity to bring this title to this new platform. How does Stadia help with the brand new 64 player multiplayer mode? TS: Being able to access the game and play Bomberman anytime anywhere on several different types of devices is by far the biggest advantage. Seeing how we can also utilize Stadia’s unique features like Crowd Play, which allows streamers to be able to host a 64-player multiplayer match where other users can join in very seamlessly through the video stream, is a fascinating endeavor. We’re very eager to see new communities form through these features that we’ve never had before. How were you able to make such a large multiplayer experience without making it overwhelming to individual players? TS: Bomberman has traditionally been a game where you can get the full gameplay experience with 4 to 5-player battles, so in order to allow a 64 multiplayer battle that does not detract from what made the original game fun, we had conducted a lot of testing through trial and error. If we had made it so that you fight against players in a large enclosed field like in other battle royale games, you would inevitably lose the tension and strategy that comes with having to fight in a closed room, which are essential elements to Bomberman. That’s why we made it to where players go through small rooms that are connected to each other, like what you see now. On a micro level, the gameplay experience is very similar to the original Bomberman, so that I think helps it from being overwhelming. On the other hand, we’ve incorporated what makes multiplayer games so great, and designed the game to where players can feel the game escalating as you get towards the end of the match; much more so in this game than in other Bomberman games. It’s one of the biggest reasons why we daringly included the life-based system. More players will be able to survive the early stages, and players will be able to experience that multiplayer aspect when you get crammed into an area with 10 or more players and it just becomes a complete frenzy. You can also regain lives by knocking out other players, so you need be able to change your positioning throughout each long battle, and in doing so we made sure players are constantly on the edge of their seats throughout the game. What makes SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE unique? TM: We haven’t changed the fact that it’s still a Bomberman game with simple controls and easy to enjoy mechanics, but what is unique in this game is the intense multiplayer experience of battling with 64 players at once. Even if you’re not so good at playing multiplayer games, I believe this is a good chance to give it a whirl and see how much fun online games can be. What inspired Konami to add SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE to their collection of Bomberman titles? TM: We were thinking about ways to get more people interested in Bomberman, and so making an online game that had a large-scale multiplayer mode as the main content was how this project began. We saw a lot of requests from fans saying they wanted to play Bomberman with lots of other players, so we decided to really make it happen. Any tips or strategies for brand new Bomberman players? TS: Rule #1 - You probably want to avoid getting blasted. My advice would be to lay low in the beginning stages, try not to immediately blow up your opponents, and just watch closely where the bombs are planted and get away from the blast zone. There will be characters in this game with different types and abilities, so if you keep in mind what character has what ability than you might have a better chance at surviving. What’s your favorite gameplay moment in SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE? TS: The tension that builds the longer you survive in a Battle 64 match is the most interesting part of the game. As time goes by, the battle field becomes more dense as areas begin to disappear, and you have to face opponents with lots of power-ups so it gets really intense. The players who can make it to the last remaining area are quite strong, so to battle against them is extremely thrilling. To survive until the end takes a lot of skill, but that exuberant feeling you get to be the winner is like none other, and it’s something I hope everyone would get to enjoy. Who is your go-to Bomberman character? TM: My go-to is Aqua. She’s the only character equipped with the Piece Bomb from the start, so being strong and able to easily collect items at the start makes it easier to be in the lead. TS: For me it’s White. I’ve been using White Bomber since the first Bomberman, so I have an attachment towards this character. He’s also a well-balanced character and easy to power-up. I like how you can use this character without thinking too deeply about it. How do you see SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE paving the way for future games from the team? TS: In addition to our current fans, we hope that this will be a great opportunity for those who’ve never played Bomberman before, especially the younger audience who do enjoy online multiplayer games, to get hands-on experience playing a Bomberman game. The Bomberman series has always been an easy to pick up and play battle game, and so we would love to see the series have a bigger presence now more than ever before. Anything else? For those who’ve played Bomberman before, and even for those who haven’t, SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE is a great new way of playing Bomberman. I encourage you all to take on the challenge and aim to be the last one standing (BOMBER ONE)!

This week, Larian Studios announced on their Panel from Hell livestream that Baldur’s Gate 3, the next-generation RPG set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, is launching into Early Access on September 30th. Today, we’re diving deeper into an adventure that gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that reacts to your choices. We caught up with Kieron Kelly at Larian Studios to hear more about the Early Access release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Stadia. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey! Can you introduce yourself and Larian Studios? Hello! I’m Kieron Kelly, the Product Manager for Larian Studios. We’ve been making role playing games since 1996. For us, games are all about creating grand adventures where players have a real sense of freedom, with stories where choices matter and the world reacts. Following our last game, the award-winning Divinity: Original Sin 2, we’re creating a next-generation RPG with Baldur’s Gate 3, set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. We’re all looking forward to the Early Access launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 - when can we expect to play it on Stadia? This week, we announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be playable on Stadia for day 1 of our Early Access launch on September 30th. This will just be the first Act of Early Access, but there’s much more to come! Tuesday’s Panel from Hell livestream revealed Avernus, the massive new region that will be playable at Early Access launch. Can you tell us more about this area? The final part of Baldur’s Gate 3’s introduction was shown for the first time during our panel, revealing that players will begin their journey in Avernus. Avernus is the first layer of the Nine Hells, and it featured heavily in the recently released D&D adventure “Descent into Avernus”. During that adventure, the nearby city of Elturel was dragged into hell. While the city was saved, the aftermath of that cataclysmic event cast a very large shadow over the events of Baldur’s Gate 3. Captive aboard a nautiloid, flying above the apocalyptic Blood War that ravages across this hellscape, players will take part in a daring escape as the ship jumps between planes of existence in an effort to return home. What about Stadia makes you excited to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to players? For me it's how low the barrier to entry is thanks to Stadia. One thing I’ve noticed in the many years of seeing people play our RPGs for the first time is how easily the game clicks with them once they start playing. Some players don’t own a powerful PC or the latest console, but we know from experience that new players just need to jump in to experience the world we’ve created and explore on their own to get hooked. With Stadia, getting up and running in Baldur’s Gate 3 and exploring for yourself is a lot more accessible. Why is releasing Baldur’s Gate 3 into Early Access important to the team at Larian Studios? We’ve found that working directly with the community is the key to creating the best games possible. Community feedback is what makes it possible to create RPGs this large with so many possibilities for players, especially as new features and fixes are continually added to the game. Put simply, working directly with our players over the course of Early Access makes our games better. For both experienced fans of the series and new players, what should we expect to see in terms of the story? You’ve been kidnapped by mind flayers. A tadpole that gives the expression “invasive species” a new meaning has burrowed deep into your head. You escape from your cage only to find yourself stranded and hovering over a war torn hellscape. You manage to get away, but barely survive crash landing a nautiloid, and then if that’s not enough, you still find yourself stranded in the middle of an inhospitable wilderness. And that’s just the beginning! Fans can expect an epic journey with lots of twists and turns, with a host of interesting characters to interact and potentially journey with. You’ll discover that the parasite inside your mind is a ticking time bomb, and you have limited time to find a solution before you turn into a Mind Flayer yourself. You need a cure, and while there may be a few potential ways to solve it, the easiest options are not without their own risks. How big is Baldur’s Gate 3 compared to its predecessors? I can’t comment on the size of the full game just yet since it’s still in development, but I can certainly give you some detail as to how Early Access for Baldur’s Gate 3 compares to the Early Access content for Divinity: Original Sin 2. While the play time for both games will be quite similar for Act 1, the difference will be in the depth. Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access will contain nearly three times as many lines (in English) as Divinity: Original Sin 2 Early Access. It’ll have almost four times as many possible combat encounters, and four times as many NPC’s. The exciting part is that it’s not just bigger than its predecessor, it’s also deeper. The amount of branching choices in the adventure means that the choices you make matter more now than ever. You’ll need to play this version of Baldur’s Gate 3 multiple times before seeing all the content that's on offer. Is there an exciting gameplay moment from the new Avernus region that you can share with us? During the Panel from Hell livestream, we showed a gruesome moment where we find a human laying back on a chair and their brain exposed. After inspection, we realise the brain inside is none other than an Intellect Devourer! These Mind Flayers creations are the truest form of deadly body snatchers. After removing the creature, we showed the possibility of bringing this foul aberration with you on your journey as a party follower!

We’re excited to announce that Spiritfarer, the new narrative-driven management game from Thunder Lotus, will be arriving on the Stadia store when it launches later this year! The hand-drawn graphics envelop an endearing tale of compassion and adventure that engages players on the topic of death. As the ferry-master of spirits on their way to the afterlife, players will embark on a journey filled with positive memories and cherished friends. We spoke with Rodrigue Duperron from Thunder Lotus about Spiritfarer’s gameplay, narrative, and development inspiration in anticipation of its arrival on the Stadia store. --------------------------------- Hello! Could you introduce yourself and Thunder Lotus? Hey there! I’m Rodrigue from Thunder Lotus. We’re an indie studio based in Montreal, Canada that specializes in making gorgeous, hand-drawn games. We previously released two games on Stadia, Jotun and Sundered, and are looking forward to Spiritfarer being available on Stadia at launch! For those players who haven’t heard of Spiritfarer, can you tell us more about the game and what features we should expect? We call Spiritfarer a “cozy management game about dying”. You play as Stella, the newly-appointed ferry-master to the deceased. You must build a boat to explore the world and its varied islands in search of spirits ready to begin their transition to the afterlife. You’ll manage your boat like a floating hotel, caring for your passengers, gathering resources throughout the world, and making each spirit’s final voyage a memorable one. In essence, Spiritfarer is a journey through which you learn to say goodbye to your cherished friends. We’re seeing new characters and environments in the gameplay teaser trailer your team released today (above). Can you tell us more about them? Sure! Stan the Mushroom Spirit is certainly one of the more quirky and energetic spirits you’ll encounter – likely because he’s also by far the youngest passenger. But he nevertheless proves to harbor knowledge and wisdom beyond his years. Meanwhile, Giovanni the Lion Spirit is best described as charmingly obnoxious. Though he’s passionate and loving, you’ll discover that perhaps an undue amount of that love is directed towards himself! Today’s trailer shows off a variety of environments that make up Spiritfarer’s world. You’ll see above that Alice the Hedgehog Spirit proposes a trip which will take you from the peaks of the Japanese-inspired Mount Toroyama, to destinations like Oxbury and other urban, billboard-strewn locales. We can’t wait for players to discover how these diverse environments relate to the larger story. The topic of ‘death’ is rarely featured in games as prominently as it is in Spiritfarer. What inspired the team to develop Spiritfarer and tackle this topic? Those familiar with our previous games would say that our games are somewhat death obsessed! Like with Jotun and Sundered, mythology proves to be the common inspiration for our stories. The initial pitch for Spiritfarer was to do a farm sim-lite game with the concept of the myth of the souls of the dead on the river Styx. But we wanted to approach that material in a much more colorful and bubbly way, and this was nicely supported by the art direction. Once we had that core idea, we thought about the actual theme and message and knew we wanted to talk about death in an uplifting way. Especially compared to the more grim setting in Sundered, we sought to create something with more optimism. Why are you excited to bring Spiritfarer to Stadia? I believe Stadia is the first step in bringing a state-of-the-art gaming experience into reach for players who have been unwilling or unable to invest top dollar every few years for new hardware. For example, Spiritfarer simply isn’t playable on a PC without a dedicated graphics card. But with Stadia, players can experience Spiritfarer on their phone, TV, or other PCs, which means that more people who are interested in our game will be able to play it. Why is Spiritfarer an important experience for players to play for themselves? This game came in part from the individual desires of the members of our team to explore the themes of what death means. I believe we’ve found a very… approachable way of doing so, so that any player can engage with their own feels as much or as little as is comfortable. At its core, Spiritfarer is a cozy management game. There are a lot of chill times to be had, and this latest teaser shows that there’s a lot of fun times too. And there are characters that we hope players will connect with, and be thankful for their journey with them. In your opinion, what’s the most exciting or impactful moment when playing Spiritfarer? I think there’s going to be a cumulative emotional effect for many players. You spend the game meeting, befriending, and ultimately saying goodbye to the game’s characters, and what we’ve found in testing is that everybody has their own favorite character. The departure of each spirit may not affect each player the same way, but we hope that for some, saying goodbye to their one favorite spirit is going to stick with them for a long time – possibly a little bittersweet, but with the emphasis on sweet. What makes Spiritfarer unique within the genre of management games? What isn’t apparent at first glance is how intricately the management mechanics are weaved into the narrative. Yes, you’re going to farm, fish, harvest, mine, and transform raw materials into other elements, as you do in many management games. But we’ve tried to make these activities more meaningful than the norm, by the fact that they’re taught to you by the spirits, and that they’re performed by your character in order to care for the spirits. In other words, you’re not merely building the most efficient ferry as an end in and of itself – you’re doing so as part of the larger journey. We’re definitely looking forward to playing Spiritfarer when it launches later this year. Is there anything else that players should know today? Just that this is a very special game for our team, and that we can’t wait to share it with the world. If anyone wants some behind-the-scenes tidbits about Spiritfarer, our newsletter is where it’s at! You can check it out and subscribe here: http://bit.ly/SpiritfarerNewsletter

Change the world with your voice in One Hand Clapping, the 2D puzzle platformer that arrived July 14 on the Stadia store. While still an Early Access title that will continue to grow with new content, this unique indie title allows you to explore and sing into your headset to solve musical puzzles. Discover your voice as you explore the beautiful and musical world around you. We chatted with Philipp Nägelsbach at HandyGames to learn more about the development journey of One Hand Clapping as an indie title on Stadia. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey! Could you introduce yourself, HandyGames, and Bad Dream Games? I’m Philipp Nägelsbach from HandyGames - we’re a publishing studio celebrating our 20th anniversary this year. I’m the producer of One Hand Clapping, working alongside the dedicated development team at Bad Dream Games from Los Angeles, California. We just immediately knew that the game was something special, and are happy to be sharing it with players on Stadia. Can you explain what One Hand Clapping is to new players? One Hand Clapping is a 2D puzzle platformer where players sing into their microphone to solve musical puzzles and change a magical world around them. It’s a space for players to loosen up, have fun, and unleash a power that comes directly from their own body and mind. Players learn how to use their voice to create melody, rhythm, and harmony in a playful and intuitive way. Why are you excited to bring this game to Stadia? Everyone has a voice, so One Hand Clapping is designed to be a game for everyone! With that in mind, Stadia is a great fit for One Hand Clapping because it allows people to play the game from their favorite devices. Stadia also makes it easy to share how you solve these puzzles with your friends just by using gameplay capture. It’s really exciting to have seen the community react to our game since launch! What inspired the team to develop One Hand Clapping? The team at Bad Dream Games wanted to create a game that explored the joy of singing. Singing is something magical that everyone can do, but typically we don’t sing unless we’re in the shower or the car where no one can hear us. One Hand Clapping is a game that encourages players to use their voice to make a difference within the in-game world, and we think that’s really powerful. Why is One Hand Clapping an important experience for players to see and play for themselves? One Hand Clapping empowers its players in a really special way. Your voice IS the controller. Since everyone’s voice is unique and wonderful in its own way, the experience is different for every player. The level of freedom encourages players to be creative and silly, resulting in good, honest fun. One Hand Clapping is an interactive game that combines music and singing with the puzzle-platformer genre. How do you see games evolving in the future to be more interactive? I think it’s great to use different input methods and experiment with what’s possible. We are fortunate enough that having a microphone or headset is pretty common, but I think that most innovation will come from exploring more ideas about how people can play together, share their experiences, and interact with each other. As an indie title, did the team feel that One Hand Clapping had more ability to be creative during development? Creativity is the main appeal of indie games, since developers can focus on a few unusual game mechanics and fully explore them with more freedom. Since One Hand Clapping is a very unique idea, there are lots of opportunities to get creative, even as we continue with its development. One Hand Clapping released as an Early Access title on Stadia - could you give players a teaser into what you have planned for the future? Last week’s Early Access release is only a small glimpse into what’s to come. We plan to release updates with new content and features every two months. Players will travel to new environments, meet new friends, and be challenged with mastering new mechanics based on rhythm and harmony. Do you have any tips or advice for new players who are giving One Hand Clapping a try this week? Don’t be afraid to sing! It’s less difficult and much more fun when you put your whole heart into it. If you change anything in your setup or let someone else play, make sure to recalibrate your sensitivity and range in the menu settings to make sure you have the best experience. Anything else that players should know? If you can believe it, One Hand Clapping started as a student project in 2016 before receiving some viral attention that transformed it into the game we’re playing today. The team over at Bad Dream Games talking a bit more about their experience working on the game within a developer diary vlog below - definitely give it a watch!
