Hey everyone, Starting today and over the course of the next 4 days, we’ll be rolling out a couple of updates to the Connection Panel on Stadia. Based on your feedback, the connection status icon will reflect only your connection strength. So, you’ll see a green “Excellent” icon if your connection strength is strong, whether or not you’re streaming in 4K. Stadia Pro users will still see a 4K icon in the connection panel when streaming in 4K resolution. You can learn more about stream quality in our updated Help Center article, which details each of our connection statuses (Excellent, Fair and Game might stop). These changes should help provide a more accurate readout for you and set us up for more refinements to the connection panel in the future. Just to be clear, your gameplay quality itself will not be affected. The only difference will be the reporting of connection quality. ---------- The Stadia Team

Arriving soon for purchase on the Stadia store, Get Packed is a co-op game and a First on Stadia title, full of calamity and carnage for 1-4 players. As seen in the new trailer above, the game combines frantic scenarios with ridiculous physics as you help the citizens of Ditchlington relocate as fast as possible. To help prepare for the arrival of Get Packed on Stadia, we chatted with Jamie King at Moonshine Studios to learn more about its development! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey! Could you introduce yourself and Moonshine Studios? My name’s Jamie King, and I’m a designer at Moonshine Studios. We’re a five-person indie developer based in Cornwall, England, and we’ve been working with our publisher, Coatsink, to bring Get Packed to Stadia! With Get Packed being Moonshine Studios’ first game, how do you see it paving the way for future games from the team? While it’s still early for our team, we hope that Get Packed will be a cornerstone that allows us to make unconventional and ambitious titles for years to come. It’s been great creating Get Packed as a comedy and physics-centric game, and moving forward we hope to expand and create new genres and trends. It looks like we have an all-new trailer for Get Packed featured above. Can you explain how to play Get Packed? Sure! Get Packed features frantic, physics-based gameplay for 1-4 players and blurs the line between co-operative and competitive multiplayer. As an employee of a removals company headquartered in the town of Ditchlington, you’re tasked with saving the townsfolk from the evil Industrial Salt Corporation. You’ll need to pack your way through a variety of unique levels in increasingly bizarre tasks. What inspired your team to develop Get Packed? It all started out with our team’s recent move to Cornwall, England - the topic of packing and relocating were on all of our minds. Combined with our goal of creating a game that both family and friends could play together, we created Get Packed! We wanted to make a game that appeals to both core gamers and players with limited experience, and we’re really happy with how it turned out. What’s your favorite gameplay moment in Get Packed? Personally, it’s a tie between two laugh-out-loud moments. Either dragging a T-Rex skeleton through the museum with a frantic guard chasing after us, or stunning the opposing team with a well-aimed lamppost and preventing them from winning... What makes Get Packed unique within the co-op genre? We focused on making Get Packed with silly physics mechanics that can combine to create crazy gameplay results. There aren’t many games where you can shoot a firework into a keg, sending it rocketing towards your face and knocking you to the floor! Why are you excited to develop on Stadia? Stadia has been a massive help in developing physics-based multiplayer for online play within Get Packed. While physics-based gameplay mechanics and online multiplayer work well in local and split-screen games, you typically face latency issues in online multiplayer games that make development an absolute nightmare. Thankfully, Stadia provides a unique solution to ensure every player online has an accurate shared multiplayer experience. What else should players know about Get Packed? Our single and multiplayer campaigns offer a tremendous amount of replayability with both local and online play. It’s an ideal game for quick pick-up-and-play fun with friends or family, with tons of customization unlockables for completing different levels and challenges. On top of all that, we plan to drop some add-on content post-launch bringing new levels and more to Ditchlington! We can’t wait to see everyone’s screenshot and video clip content captures on Stadia. Have fun!

Play with family at home or with friends online in Gunsport and Just Shapes & Beats, two co-op games that players will be able to purchase in the Stadia store this year. Move to the beat and avoid incoming shapes in Just Shapes & Beats, or engage in some friendly competition with 2v2 matches in Gunsport, a First on Stadia title. Gunsport Developer: Necrosoft Games Publisher: Necrosoft Games Gunsport is 2v2 volleyball with guns, with five stages, five teams, a story mode, and of course online multiplayer on Stadia. Designed as a mini-esport that encourages teamwork and friendly competition, each team has the same main weapon with which to shoot a single ball into the opposing team’s goals. But under certain conditions, players can activate their team’s unique special weapons and attempt to get ahead or turn the tide. Features: Customizable rulesets vary the action across versus modes and co-op. Players’ shots take time to recharge, so must be used wisely – team attacks help to charge the special gauge, giving you faster access to your biggest weapons. Just Shapes & Beats Developer: Berzerk Studio Publisher: Berzerk Studio Just Shapes & Beats, the game about shapes, and beats. It’s a new spin on the shoot 'em up genre, adding a layer of cooperation that’s at the core of the game because everything is better with friends. We’re excited to announce that Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) is launching April 1st on the Stadia store, bringing zany 3D tower-building action to players everywhere! Construct stable towers as the Master Stacker, Rockit, by executing architectural feats of balancing using materials such as famous works of art, aquariums, magnets, and more. To learn more about the quirky world of Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) ahead of launch, we talked with Ian Sundstrom at Herringbone Games!   Hey! Could you introduce yourself and Herringbone Games? Hi! I’m Ian Sundstrom, an indie developer at Herringbone Games, a small game studio. I wear many hats -- both programming and designing our games as well as taking care of day-to-day operations at the studio. During these unprecedented times of social distancing, our team is hanging in there and looking forward to getting our game in the hands of players!   What kind of games is your studio known for creating? Herringbone Games is focused on creating novel gameplay mechanics that create unique experiences for our players. Before Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks), we released the mobile strategy board game of color, Sature, which featured an original mechanic in which each players’ pieces would mix colors with each other, like paints on a palette. I always want our players to feel like our games scratch an itch they didn’t know they had!   That’s true, Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) looks incredibly unique as well. Can you describe what’s going on in the trailer? Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) aims to be the ultimate game in the micro genre of “stacking” games. It’s a simple concept that hasn’t been executed before - a 3D tower-builder that combines elements of other famous 2D stacking games. To keep things interesting, the game has plenty of twists, such as challenging you to build your tower on difficult surfaces or replacing your bricks with random materials like magnets, works of art, or aquariums!   What inspired your team to create Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks)? The prototype of Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) started as a minigame for a construction-themed side project we were working on. Ultimately, the prototype was so much fun that we decided to expand upon the core idea with tons of variations on the mechanics and building materials. We took mechanical inspiration from other well-known stacking board games, but also drew aesthetic direction from Japanese puzzle-action games as well.   What makes Stacks on Stacks on Stacks unique within the stacking genre? Unlike most games in the genre, Stacks is fully 3D and utilizes real-time physics for dynamic building. Having an extra dimension allows for more complex and architectural building challenges. In addition, Stacks doesn’t feature any kind of grid snapping or lock-in as you place pieces. This allows your towers to wobble and sway, tilt, or crumble, which creates plenty of tension. Watching a tower collapse can create just as much excitement as building one up - you’ll see!   What’s your favorite gameplay moment in Stacks on Stacks on Stacks? The best part about our game is watching players execute the seemingly impossible. The hype is real when you see a player finish a stage by perfectly balancing a sculpture on top of a wobbling base. Throughout its development, I’ve watched hundreds of people play Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks), and I still love seeing each player’s unique building method.   What makes you excited to create your game on Stadia? I’m excited that Stadia allows us to bring Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) to a variety of devices. For example, despite our 3D physics and graphics being too intensive to run on mobile phones independently, with Stadia we’re able to stream Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) for play on phones, tablets, and more. Stadia also helps us make Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) more accessible, including features such as fully remappable inputs, captioning, and legible UI.   What makes Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) so easy to come back to? Our game is easy to understand but difficult to master, making it an approachable experience for all players, while still offering a big challenge for those who want to build the tallest possible tower. We’ve also built in a ton of different modes for players to explore, including singleplayer and co-op campaigns, plus two arcade modes with global leaderboards. There’s even a split-screen versus mode, where you can race head-to-head against a friend to build your tower while throwing power-downs like lightning bolts or shrinking their tower’s bricks.   ______ By: Stadia Team

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a narrative-driven, atmospheric puzzler, and winner of over a dozen game awards when it was still in development, including UK Game of Show at gamescom. It will be arriving soon for purchase on the Stadia store as a First on Stadia game! In anticipation of getting started in Lost Words, we talked to Mark Backler at Sketchbook Games to learn more about its development. ---------------------------------- Hi there! Can you introduce yourself and Sketchbook Games? Sure! I’m Mark Backler, Creative Director of Lost Words: Beyond the Page and founder of Sketchbook Games. For those who aren’t familiar, can you tell us more about your team? While Lost Words is our debut game, the team at Sketchbook Games has worked on other games including Fable 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Yooka-Laylee. We believe that videogames are one of the most powerful storytelling mediums and our aim is to create unique, moving experiences for players that stick with them long after they’ve finished playing. Can you describe what it’s like to play Lost Words? Lost Words: Beyond the Page is an award-winning atmospheric puzzler with a moving story about a young girl named Izzy struggling to face the reality of her grandma’s illness. Escaping to the fantasy world of Estoria within her diary, players use words themselves to solve challenging puzzles and make decisions that shape the story. What inspired your team to create Lost Words? We wanted to create a game that was emotionally stirring and relevant to a real world issue, but deliver a message that’s ultimately uplifting and offer support to players. Our writer, Rhianna Pratchett, drew inspiration from her own relationship with her grandmother to help craft our story. What makes Lost Words unique within the narrative adventure genre? The most fascinating and unique element of Lost Words is our gameplay mechanic of using words to change your environment, even using words themselves as platforms. We also took inspiration from fantasy adventure stories and movies, creating a narrative with both realism and fantasy elements that I think is special to our game. What’s your favorite gameplay moment in Lost Words? It feels incredible to be able to use words to change the world around you in Lost Words, so my favorite moment is being able to use the word “break” to smash objects, which is a ton of fun. What made you excited to develop Lost Words on Stadia? We feel Lost Words has broad appeal with both gamers and people who haven't played games before. As a result, the game is perfect for Stadia since the platform removes the barriers to entry of a high end PC, console, or even needing to have a games client installed. As developers, it’s really exciting to be able to bring our game to more devices and to audiences that otherwise may not have been able to play. What makes Lost Words a story that players will continue to come back to play? We hope that players will remember our unique story, majestic soundtrack, innovative gameplay, and beautiful visuals. It’s an experience that will stay with players for a long time after they’ve played. If they can't get enough of all things Lost Words then they can follow us on Twitter at @LostWordsGame or visit LostWordsGame.com.

Get ready to follow Sam “Serious” Stone in his quest to destroy the alien overlord, Mental, when Serious Sam Collection launches on Stadia next week! You heard right - on March 3rd, fight against wave after wave of invading alien hordes in the action adventure shooter. Ahead of its launch on Stadia, we chatted with Davor Hunski at Croteam about Serious Sam Collection. ------------------------- Hi! Can you introduce yourself and Croteam? I’m Davor Hunski, one of the founders and the Chief Creative Officer at Croteam. It’s humbling and exciting to say that we’ve been creating games for over 27 years, making us the oldest game development studio here in Croatia.   What kind of games does Croteam create? Since the very beginning, our mission has been to have fun while developing games that we can share with our players. Although we’re well-known for the chaotic Serious Sam FPS series that we created 19 years ago, we also developed the award-winning puzzler The Talos Principle.   Serious Sam is a long-running series, but can you describe what first-time players should expect to experience? With every game in the Serious Sam Collection, players should expect nothing short of epic chaos. It’s more than a first-person shooter - it’s an international adventure filled with high-adrenaline action and face-offs against nightmarish warriors like the Headless Kamikaze. Who doesn’t love playing around with a huge arsenal of deadly weapons while fighting off hordes of monsters?   What inspired Croteam to create Serious Sam Collection? The Serious Sam Collection gives us an opportunity to let players experience everything special about our beloved series. Every enemy, environment, and game mechanic in these games is important to capturing the feeling of playing a Serious Sam game.   In your opinion, what’s the most exciting moment when playing Serious Sam Collection? There are too many individual moments to count, but the game is full of big, memorable fights that always get my blood flowing.   What makes your game unique within the FPS genre? The Serious Sam series is unique in terms of its focus on huge arenas filled with dozens upon dozens of nasty beasts coming at you at the same time! The core gameplay is based on finding the right balance between smart movement, weapon switching and recognizing enemy behavior patterns. The game will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment the fight music starts until there’s no one left but you on the battlefield.   What can you tell readers about the quality of the gameplay experience that's unique to Stadia? Playing on Stadia is unlike anything that has been experienced before because you don’t need to worry about your computer staying up to date or having a machine that’s powerful enough to play. You need your controller, a screen, and a good connection. It’s simple. That’s why I like it.   What makes Serious Sam Collection a game that players will continue to come back to? The game offers endless unfiltered fun, so that’s the main attraction. Blowing up enemies never gets old, and from my experience, it’s a perfect way to relax after a hard day at work. It allows you to let off some steam, whether you play alone or with a few friends. There’s also a fun narrative within our story and a lot of potential for players to uncover and explore the world.

Spitlings, the arcade platformer, is coming to players everywhere First on Stadia on February 25! That’s right - next Tuesday, you’ll be able to instantly hop into the chaos with up to three friends locally. But beware - if one player fails and gets hit by a bubble, everyone will need to restart! To celebrate Spitling’s launch next week on Stadia, we sat down with Milan Pingel at Massive Miniteam, the developer of Spitlings, to learn more about the game. -------------------------------- Hey there! Can you introduce yourself and Massive Miniteam? Hi! I'm Milan, one of the founders of Massive Miniteam, the developer behind Spitlings. I’m the creative producer and level designer on our small team of nine people based in Cologne, Germany. We're super excited to work together with our publisher, HandyGames, on our first game release on Stadia!   For those who aren’t familiar with your team, how would you describe the games you create? At Massive Miniteam, we want to create experiences that lead to memorable moments and let players laugh together. We're always looking for something new in our games, giving players a breath of fresh air and keeping ourselves inspired as well. To us, games are about finding the fun moments in chaos!   Tell us more about Spitlings in your own words. What’s it all about? To put it simply, Spitlings is an arcade platformer that challenges up to four players to work together and destroy constantly-changing patterns of bouncy bubbles. We made sure to develop a simple control scheme and a one-screen level design, so that Spitlings is "easy to pick up, but hard to put down." As a child, did you sit on the floor in front of a TV with your friends, playing simple but exciting games for hours on end? We created Spitlings to bring that experience back for players!   How did you and your team come up with the idea to create Spitlings? The inspiration for Spitlings came from our desire to bring the experience of old arcade games into the modern days. We adopted the framework of original arcade games but really honed in on the gameplay and level design to make it as colorful, juicy and fun as it could be!   What are the most exciting parts of Spitlings that players should experience? There seem to be two incredible moments in each game session of Spitlings: -   Everytime there’s one final bubble to hit, it feels like the chances are doubled that players are going to hit each other by mistake. -   When a player comments that one of their friends is failing too often, they are unfailingly the next one to mess up and cause a restart for everyone. You'll see. We put it in the code. (Ha!) What makes Spitlings unique within the arcade platformer genre? Spitlings is a game about community and overcoming difficult challenges together. If one player fails, everyone restarts. We abide by this because we think it creates a much more engaging experience. It may be frustrating at times, but players learn to adjust - they communicate as a team, develop strategies and try to keep an eye out for each other. What makes you excited to develop Spitlings on Stadia? Stadia gives us the chance to share Spitlings with more players across different devices. Since we needed to make sure that playing with friends worked flawlessly, low latency and fluid gameplay on Stadia were huge factors for us. Additionally, we have some great new mechanics and features in the works that will be available post-launch. Why will players continue to come back and play Spitlings? We filled Spitlings with dozens of hours of gameplay content, including one hundred Spitlings to unlock and a super-difficult B-side version of every level in the story campaign. Plus, once you've finished the story, the party mode contains even more unique levels and some spicy mutators that change up the game completely! Aside from the in-game content, Spitlings is hard to put down because the characters are super loveable, the gameplay is plain fun, and it’s a very easy choice to start up and play when you have friends next to you.
