I did, the chat response came from the Google Pay team. My payment has now been refunded separately however.  
It’s from a Lenovo laptop, and it works for new and existing accounts.

As above, I entered a (valid) code for a three month free trial for Stadia Pro.  The message instructed me to sign up in the usual way and that I wouldn't be billed until the trail period expired.  However, the first month's charge appeared immediately. I've raised two support cases with Google but both have been closed and they claim to be the wrong department. Unless someone can refer me to the correct help source I'll have to request a chargeback from the credit card.
