My post is mostly based on the significant number of posts I have seen over on r/Stadia with people reporting excellent results in the speed test and then demonstrating that they have massive packet loss and/or ping when people from the community push them to try other speed test services. It may very well be that this is simply an issue with the system that creates false positives in some cases, but the sheer number of times it has come up leads me to believe that it is highly unlikely. As for the second point (of which I am not at all entirely confident, and will edit to reflect that better), I cannot find the original discussion, but I remember people were discussing this a while back (probably at least 8 months ago) and someone seemed to have found information that pointed to what I describe. But yes, you are correct that this second point may not actually be an issue.

Hi all, As some of you may know, there is an official Stadia speed test used to determine if your connection is good enough to run Stadia before giving it a try: https://projectstream.google.com/speedtest How it works: This speed test is provided by m-labs, and like most speed tests, what it does is send data to your device and then have you send data back in order to understand how your network performs. This sort of speed test technology can help measure a multitude of things, including: The average download and upload speeds between your computer and the test server. The lowest speeds achieved over a given period of time. The average latency (or ping) between the two devices. The reliability of the connection: Packet loss represents data that was lost along the way and had to be sent twice before reaching its destination. Jitter represents a variation in timing data takes to reach its destination; The issue: From what I have been able to tell, there are 2 issues with the current Stadia speed test, one of them is incredibly problematic and is the cause of daily posts by confused users on reddit, this site and other platforms: As far as anyone has been able to determine, this speed test only measures average speed (an possibly ping, but point 2 likely makes that irrelevant). (Not entirely confident about this one) The speed test servers appear not to be placed within each Stadia data center, but instead provided by a 3rd party service with servers in other locations. For a bit of context, the issue with point 1 is that there are a TON of people out there with perfectly adequate speed but terrible ping and unreliable connections. These people get a "Your connection is great" message from the speed test even though their connection may be absolutely terrible and completely unable to run Stadia whatsoever. I see posts on r/Stadia at least once a week, if not closer to once a day these days I and suspect that for each post on social media there are half a dozen people who just give up and believe it's simply because Stadia is terrible for everyone. The second point, though less important, can still lead to people having a great result in the speed test but terrible ping and/or network routing to the closest Stadia data center, which would again result in a false-positive. The solution: If you run a speed test over at m-labs you will clearly see that they measure more than just speed, so there is no excuse for the first point, and I am fairly certain it's down to someone at Stadia either modifying the code of the speed test page or getting on the phone with m-labs and getting them to change the parameters. As for the second point, it could be a bit more complex since it would require a bespoke solution installed within each Stadia data center. But I'm pretty certain a simple "hey, we'll give you free servers for your speed tests if you use them exclusively for Stadia speed testing" would have m-labs or any other competitor acquiescing in an instant.     This is not rocket science, and is starting to become a major black spot on Stadia. Someone please bring this to the attention of whoever is in charge of this side of the service. It's really overdue.

As can be seen in the image above, the captures page has a layout issue on the Stadia website below 1200px in page width (give or take). This may not seem to be a big issue, but I'd wager quite a few people run the main Stadia screen in a window, and may face this issue. I'm not going to tell the devs how to do their job, but this is how I fixed it:     .neTWrf { max-width: 100%; /* Option 1 */ max-width: 100vw; /* Option 2 */ } .au9T5d { padding: 0 4rem; /* grid-template-columns: 1fr 1fr 1fr; Replaced to allow responsiveness */ grid-template-columns: repeat(auto-fit, minmax(320px, 1fr)); }

I skipped v0.7 because I don't like the number seven!   Introduction Hi there Stadia Community! I don't usually post here (I'm mostly on Reddit), but since I'm taking StadiaIcons out of beta, it might be time to share the love a bit What is It? StadiaIcons is a set of game icons designed with Stadia in mind. Each icon follows a simple design principle inspired by the Stadia logo and colors. As for StadiaIcons Shortcuts, it allows you to easily add individual Stadia game shortcuts with their corresponding StadiaIcon to your devices in just a few clicks.   v0.8 What's New? As usual, I've added new icons! République Super Bomberman Online Uno WWE 2K – Battlegrounds Hotline Miami Hotline Miami2: Wrong Number Serious Sam 4   StadiaIcons Shortcuts is coming out of Beta!   Thanks to the help of Jedi#4759 (and a few others) over on the Stadia Discord, I've been able to transfer StadiaIcons Shortcuts over to a new platform (using Google's own Firebase), which means I'm now confident enough with the code and platform to take it out of Beta!   𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗖𝗨𝗧𝗦   The system hasn't changed much, but it has been almost entirely recoded and should be quite a bit more stable. I have only tested it on Windows, have been told it works on ChromeOS, and suspect it's fine on Mac OS and Linux; Android on the other hand might be a bit of a challenge to get it working on.   IMPORTANT: For anyone who had previously installed StadiaIcons Shortcuts, they'll still work, but the old platform will no longer be updated. I recommend uninstalling them and reinstalling them on the new platform just in case. As part of this update, I've also included translations . Currently, it should work in English , French , German , Dutch  and Sweedish .   Looking for Help Translating   For anyone out there willing to give a hand translating this into other languages (or correcting the existing ones), I set up a guide for people who want to give a hand with this: Translation Guide ——— And of course, you can find a ton more details about the project over on GitHub , including a ton of info on how developers can use it for their own projects!

So for a while now I've been throwing this link at people! https://forms.gle/4cb5j1JWrUh1JfdYA It's a quick troubleshooting guide I designed a while back to help people identify possible issues with Stadia centered around bad connectivity and latency/stuttering problems. It's nothing fancy, but has helped enough people resolve some of their issues (about 25%). As of today, I've had almost 100 people go through the form and give me feedback, so I decided it would be cool to throw out a few statistics and possible insights that might be interesting for people out there! First, most of the answers I got are from the US (50%), Germany (10%), Canada (10%) and the UK (10%). This probably corresponds to the population on the official Reddit, so I wouldn't read too much into it. Next it seems that many issues are directly linked to using Stadia over WiFi (39% had issues when over WiFi, 39% over both WiFi and Ethernet, and only 22% when plugged in). This isn't too surprising either, but it does really show how much of a difference a direct connection can make. Now within these categories (WiFi/Ethernet/Both) the percentage of people having issues in Chrome vs Chromecast/Phone/All is staggering at 63% – 72%! And this bit is really telling, when coupled with all the discussions I've seen on Reddit, it really seems like one of the main problems people have when running Stadia is that there are way too many factors that can affect the quality of you connection when using Chrome (browser extensions, antivirus, VPN, firewall issues, low-quality network card, bad handling of video decoding, ...). In fact, if Google were to build some form of tool to try and identify some of these issues, I think it might help a pretty decent portion of users! I'm not sure if this is meaningful, but I asked people what ISP they were using and AT&T and Spectrum were the only ones to come up quite a few times (but the sample size is much too small to be worth much I think). As form modems, there are a whole bunch, but quite a lot of Google WiFi. Once again, not enough data to make this really meaningful, but still worth pointing out that it's not a catch-all solution.   And there it is. I could probably have built the form to gather a bit more data, but that wasn't really my goal at that point in time.
On the off-chance it might be something other than your ISP (as others have suggested), I'd have a go at this quick guide: https://forms.gle/4cb5j1JWrUh1JfdYA You might stumble upon something unexpe... See more...

Hi there, I understand that Buddy Passes are not rolling out yet, and that's fine. But since the new Stadia Pro games have been announced for December, should I expect my Buddy Pass friend to get a copy of Destiny 2 and/or Samurai Shodown when I give them their code? The reason I am asking is that the Buddy Pass really makes sense for both games and, like many others I expect, I am/was looking forward to playing with my friend. Since, the upcoming Stadia Pro games are not really multiplayer focused, it might not be the best move to release Buddy Passes once the Pro games roster has switched... Either way, thanks for all the great work!
