Yeah as you can see, I first opened this topic at the release of the founders edition. Almost a year later there still has been no official response even though it is one of the most commented topics in the "Stadia on Chromecast" thread. Really unfortunate. There has been no help on this topic at all. @GraceFromGoogle @ChrisFromGoogle

Yep. That's exactly the problem. Most people don't have state of the art TV's and receivers. Most people already have a completely good system that works with everything else in their system. The whole point of stadia is that you don't need to buy anything. But in order to play in 4k on your chromecast you have to have a TV that supports 4kHDR and eARC and also have a receiver that supports 4K HDR and eARC. I can guarantee you the majority of the people that are on stadia do not have these or come anywhere close. What get's me is that I started this thread almost 6 months ago. Still no official comment in here from google. Lot's of other threads have had google responses but they just seem to ignore this one.
Yep... I'm in the boat where I have a 4K but my receiver doesn't have eARC so no 5.1 for me. If I plug into my receiver, I get 5.1 but no 4K. It's unfortunate to have to pick between one or the other... See more...

It's unfortunate to have to pick between one or the other. I can spend $$$ on a new receiver but at this point literally the only thing in my set-up that doesn't get 5.1 is Stadia. I get 5.1 with Netflix on my CCU... but not stadia. I can't see me spending $$$ on a new receiver when the whole point of stadia was to not drop $500.
There is 5.1 sound on CCU. However you have to have a receiver that supports Lpcm. If your Chromecast is connected to your TV both your TV and receiver have to have eArc in order to get 5.1 surround ... See more...

When this is openly available to all people, people are going to pay for the pro subscription thinking they will get 5.1 sound. They wont get 5.1 sound and they will complain in masses. This is a pro... See more...

Yes, very frustrating. This is literally one of the top issues on this community forum, yet NOBODY from Google has responded or given an update. They want us to pay for pro, but instead of getting what they promise, we get upscaled 4k and stereo sound. Man, makes me really want to stay subscribed. @GraceFromGoogle @ChrisFromGoogle
Yep I completely agree with you. When this thing goes mainstream, they are going to get inundated with support calls asking why this isnt working.
I just got an email from stadia support confirming there is an issue with 5.1 surround sound and they are working on a fix.
For me personally it doesn't work if I plug it into my receiver either (I have a 2019 Denon Receiver). However, that's the problem. This thing is just supposed to work when it's plugged in. We're all ... See more...
For me personally it doesn't work if I plug it into my receiver either (I have a 2019 Denon Receiver). However, that's the problem. This thing is just supposed to work when it's plugged in. We're all tech nerds and that's why we are in early. I would say the majority of the people that are founders have more technical know-how than the average consumer. When this goes mainstream and your average consumer can't get it to work, they will be upset and spread word that it doesn't work. Really hope this is something that gets fixed because it's very clear that it ONLY doesn't work with stadia and it's not the Chromecast.
Streaming literally anything else on my Chromecast I can get 5.1. With stadia I'm out of luck... They don't want to address it either.
Unfortunately not getting any official help from Google here
Hmm... I'll have to try this when I get home.
Yep, thats the same exact issue i'm having. Glad I'm not the only one.
Yeah I don't get why it's not outputting sound properly @GraceFromGoogle
Yeah I'm literally able to get surround sound out of everything but stadia. I've never had an issue where I don't get surround sound with my current set-up until stadia. Hopefully this can get update... See more...

On other apps connected to my TV I'm able to use eArc and output Dolby Digital surround sound on my receiver. If I cast to my Chromecast I'm able to get it to output Dolby Digital. However when playing a stadia game on my Chromecast, it only outputs stereo. I have gigabit internet, but in the connection tab, I'm only seeing 4k & HDR. There is no icon for 5.1. Do I need to enable this somewhere? Plugging into my receiver yields the same results. Stereo only.
