My latest update in this is square tells me to contact Google, Google tells me to contact square and I'm waiting on a follow-up from an escalated Google rep because I'm trying to refund the game as defective. Even if they approve my refund I'll gladly re-purchase the game in the future once it works but it doesn't look likely that square is going to fix this any time soon.

20ish hours in, same problem, tried all the possible workarounds with no luck. Sitting here with an unplayable game that no one wants to fix and I'm outside of Google's return window so. I guess we're SOL, I should have bought ACO instead.
