Now I re-activated my Shield TV Pro and will give you my personal thoughts.
Firstly, the app runs okay on Shield. I would say that the performance is on par with the WebOS-version on LG TVs. That is okay but a slight pixelation can occur from time to time. The same is true for the Android TV app on CCwGTV. On the other hand, the Shield app is inferior to the other apps as it does not support any kind of HDR due to the lack of VP9.
The LG app is very convenient and supports HDR. It shows - as already mentioned - the same performance as the Shield and CCwGTV app.
The CCwGTV is the slowest device however and therefore not too enjoyable for me.
The best results for Stadia are delivered on CCU (TV with HDR), Mobile and Chrome (with 4k plugin, no HDR). The CCU delivers the most stable picture, a proper HDR and a flawless performance (as long as it does not overheat -> you can attach passive cooling solutions if you run into high temperatures). On the other hand, a CCU is just that, right? It is a streaming device for only one task at a time; it has a very narrow field of what it can do.
In terms of response time, I was not able to feel any difference devicewise but I feel that the Stadia controllers are a tad quicker than Bluetooth ones.
Results may vary in different network conditions.
Basically, it is up to you and what you need. For pure gaming experience, I'd always opt for a wired CCU but if the Shield app is so good in your experience, then go for it. Just enjoy the Stadia experience the way you want
