I'm not sure why it would crackle but why are you using optical out on the CCU instead of connecting it to your receiver and using HDMI audio?

Nothing any of us can do for you about a hardware problem.  Contact Stadia support and they'll help you with a replacement if needed.
I agree that they should notify users of account changes and the reason for doing so.
Nobody knows, but considering there are other EA games released on Stadia it's not out of the question that it might come at some point.

I agree 100% with you on the poor way that your games are navigated on Chromecast as one big long linear list.  It can sometimes be easier to find the game you want to play in the app and then choose your chromecast as the screen to use, instead of navigating the chromecast UI.

When you go to the controller section in the app it doesn't display a link code?  Can you post a screenshot of what the controller section of the app looks like for you?
I also frequently take screen captures by accident.  It is what it is.
I think OP needs to better define "can't seem to play".  What exactly is the problem?

Is the Chromecast connected directly to the TV or through an old sound bar or something?  If not connected directly to the TV, connect it to a port on the TV confirmed to support 4K HDR 60hz - sometimes not all ports on a TV support this though this is rare with models from recent years.  Take everything between the TV and the Chromecast out of the equation.  Also double check the input you're using has "Enhanced HDMI" or similar enabled, sometimes they default to an older standard for compatibility. You didn't mention if other apps on the Chromecast will output 4K/HDR content correctly of if this problem is limited to Stadia.
The games will come.  Yes, it's been a slower roll than most of us expected so far, but these recent developments are actually very encouraging for getting more publishers on board.

How does your laptop do playing full screen 1080P videos on YouTube - try something with a lot of movement like a trailer for an action movie.  If it can manage that, it can probably manage Stadia fine in the technical sense.  While you're having issues, does Stadia report a less than good connection status?  It could be network related because even though you say Bomberman is OK, and Destiny isn't if you think about it the average bitrate that has to be maintained for an FPS where almost every pixel on the screen changes from frame to frame must be a lot higher than a game like bomberman where large portions of the screen remain unchanged frame to frame.

Does the whole controller become unresponsive or only those buttons after they've been mashed?  The same controller behaves normally when playing on Chrome?

I'm not sure why you'd think bluetooth connection would be better on PC/Phone?  Bluetooth adds a lot of latency compared to the direct-to-cloud wifi connection the Stadia Controller is using and is one of the biggest reasons to use a Stadia controller.  Also, it's not like you can use Stadia offline anyway so you're going to have a network connection available either way.  You can connect it wired via USB on your Phone/PC already, by the way.
