Thanks for looking into this more deeply. However, I think Google must address this. I can't imagine enabling ARC would be very difficult at all, likely an afternoons coding. The fact this was overlooked is truly unbelievable. Also, I contacted Stadia support about this before too and went through four different support staff before I eventually got an email from a fifth telling me it's because I don't have eARC...

Last night I couldn't even get audio from the Chromecast at all, just through the controller (headset). Google, are you punishing me!? (Lol.) Imagine, a game console that worked across every device and that had surround sound available for those who don't own BRAND NEW TVs or the space for big audio setups! What a world that would be...

I would like to use my surround sound, but for some reason Google has made Stadia's surround sound work only with eARC. So very silly. I hope they fix this very, very soon...
Okay, so last night I noticed that small ambient noise (bug noises, birds, etc) were coming through the rear channels, but nothing else!? Uhh, why would this be happening?
Of course. I'm hoping one of those "fromGoogle" folk read this, as I post these things here and send it via feedback. I would like these changes made to make Stadia a better place for all and, selfis...

Good question, and something that Google should address. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's Daydream purchases, that is poor form. I can imagine that many of us are thinking this. One reason I am is the amount of promos Stadia has been doing (free for YouTube premium, free with pre-orders, etc.). This makes me think that either they are desperately trying to gain users, or they are prepping Chromecast with Google TV as the primary Stadia device and are clearing stock. However, I tend to lean on the former given Google's track record, as you have shown. Not to mention, with next-gen having very similar capabilities now (i.e. remote play/play anywhere, SSD, SURROUND SOUND [ ] etc.) what is really the advantage of Stadia? I still have Stadia for now, but depending on what Cyberpunk is like graphically I can be easily be swayed to Team Green or Blue.
That does make sense to me. I had a similar thought. I really hope one can get surround sound from a MUCH wider variety of setups if they start pushing that device!
@Grovelhog Oh, indeed I have, friend. This also shouldn't need to be something that I am campaigning for, as it ought to be something that works day one.
An interesting first year, lots to learn and lots to fix still, but you have grown quite a bit too! Here's hoping for a much more transparent and full year two! Happy birthday.

Only eARC passes surround sound on Stadia through Chromecast Ultra. Why!? ARC is clearly the most widely available. My TV is a 2019 model and it doesn't have it. Clearly, Google, you are leaving so many people out, and making TV gaming far less attractive. Why can I cast from my phone and get surround sound, but with Stadia I cannot?

Agreed. The argument from the Founder position is nonsensical. Stadia needs people to stay, and every small gripe that the player base has, especially in comparison to PS/Xbox, is the difference between staying and going. I think it is a very foolish system and one that could have easily been avoided.
