It's likely because your TV only supports ARC and not eARC. This means that you can only do DD with your ARC and not LPCM which is required for Stadia surround. The lack of more widely used formats for audio, along with other reasons, is why I am no longer a Pro subscriber.  If you do have eARC you'll need to adjust your TVs audio settings.    Hope this helps some.
Why wouldn't you use your institution email?

I just wanted to write this for the community to let my fellow players know why I am leaving Stadia. I know I am inconsequential to the player base, and that my cancelling Stadia and moving on from it means nothing to Google, but I thought that, given I was with Stadia from the beginning, I would explain why I left. It will take very few words (one even) if I reduce it to its fundamental point and that is mismanagement. I am dumbfounded by Google’s approach to Stadia, its marketing, its rollout, and the claims made about its abilities. 4K gaming on a “true” next-gen platform? Nope, sorry; Red Dead Redemption runs closer to PS4 Pro than it does Xbox One X (https://youtu.be/x6y4MnlFLNE)! Even Doom Eternal, which was THE game to promote the quality Stadia was capable of runs at 1800p… Unacceptable. Why flaunt your 10+ TFLOPS if you aren’t pushing studios to use it? Why even have that much power!? I am glad there is a class-action lawsuit on this point (https://www.classaction.org/blog/basically-beta-testers-class-action-alleges-google-lied-about-stadia-display-quality-resolution-to-lock-in-subscribers). I will be watching this closely. (Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 was a small victory, but when the "next-gen" patch is released it will be a short-lived victory.) Another point is simply the horrible communication from the Stadia team and its management (especially towards its employees). Grace and Chris, I am not sure what your job descriptions are or what you were instructed to do when you got your positions, but the lack of participation in the community is unacceptable. I do not want to give my money to a company that cannot communicate clearly, especially to its own employees! The revelation of Phil Harrisons' email to Stadia Games and Entertainment employees a week before they closed both studios is appalling. Shame on you, Google and Harrison. Shame on you… What is the point of Stadia now? Play anywhere? Well, you can play Xbox Game Pass on an Android phone or tablet, and a PC browser version is coming soon, or the Switch! Next-gen graphics? No… What about amazing exclusive experiences only possible on the cloud? Oh, wait… It is simply a place to play fewer games and in poorer quality. No thank you, please. I purchased Stadia on day one because I thought that this could have been great. A true “game” changer, but it looks like Microsoft is actually leading the charge on streamed gaming (not to mention Amazon Luna!). Overselling, overpromising, overhyping, overego'd? Whatever it was/is, I am done.  I know there are many(?) of you who still support Stadia, and you may reply that if I did support it, I would stay, etc. You may write rebuttals to my quick points about why I am leaving, but they will not do anything. I just want to write down why, after over a year of continually stressed patience, I am finally leaving. I have the controller and my account, so I will keep watching and hoping to see the changes that will make Stadia a true competitor for my gaming time. But, until then---farewell.

I fully agree, the bitrate used for 1080p is much lower, disproportionately so, compared to the 4k screen. There is so much banding and artifacts in the 1080p stream compared to the 4k stream, which is clearly a result of the lower bitrate used.    Google, up your game and quit making such ridiculous decisions.    Also, make Stadia support surround sound through ARC, not just eARC...
Elite Dangerous, thank you.
I agree, this should be an option.
Agreed. It is ridiculous. Google needs to make this platform live up to its marketing of "play anywhere," and if one is a Pro subscribers than with surround sound!
For the love of Pete's Peppers, please make Stadia have surround sound through ARC!!!
Agreed. Seems odd to not launch broadcasting on CCU first. Hopefully soon, but like surround sound I am not holding my breath.
Surround sound through ARC!
Hey Google, surround sound through ARC, please!!

Surround sound. Through. ARC.
It is for sure because of ARC. I myself am in a similar situation and have no 5.1 because my very new TV doesn't have eARC and my audio setup only uses ARC (Sonos). So I am writing to Stadia daily to... See more...
It is for sure because of ARC. I myself am in a similar situation and have no 5.1 because my very new TV doesn't have eARC and my audio setup only uses ARC (Sonos). So I am writing to Stadia daily to make Stadia surround sound work through ARC as well. I hope others can join me!
How I long for thee, O Surround Sound from ARC. Does doth thy know that eARC be too new? Why doth thou restrict me from hearing your glory?
Oh please, Google. Do add surround sound through ARC. I beg of thee.
I agree! Add it to Stadia, please!!

Hi @Deleted User, unfortunately my soundbar (Sonos Beam) does not have any inputs, just outputs. And even though my QLED is from 2019, it doesn't have eARC. This is why I find this situation unbelievable, Google has severely limited it's potential to a wide audience in terms of audio, even though they announce to the world how Stadia is a play anywhere easily service. Insert sad face.
Surround sound through ARC, are you there?
