This is now resolved. Support on the site (I used chat) can now update your Stadia name to be capitalized.
@StadiaTeam, any update on when Destiny 2 may get a visual bump to put it on par with consoles?

I was fortunate enough to get my Founders code the minute the service went live and I tried to claim “Matt” as my name. Unfortunately Stadia said it was taken. Strangely, from that moment on until now, Matt does not exist. I even went to support who confirmed that even they cannot see a Founder with the name “Matt”. They were not sure how it’s possible that they can’t see the user, but the name says it’s unavailable. I have a theory that the system is bugged from early accounts. Matt#8297 exists on Stadia and was my first friend within the opening minutes of the service. I believe these early accounts trip up the Founders name claim process and make the system think the name exists. Another example might be the Mike account or god. To clarify, I don’t know exactly what is happening, but support confirmed that they cannot see a “Matt” account, but their system wouldn’t let me claim it. Can anyone from the Stadia team please review this potential bug? Yes I’d love the name “Matt”, but I also believe other names might be locked incorrectly as well. Thanks

Their team is aware and working to build this capability in the near future. I was told to check in every few weeks to see if they have resolved the issue on their end. I wish support here would confirm what I’ve been told.

As an update, it’s been over 24 hours since I was told that tier 2 support would review and email me back. At this point, my ticket was lost in the hundreds of other tickets about codes or they simply can’t fix my username at this time. Regardless, I wish they’d at least email me a status update.   I will give them 48 hours, then I will call them again and provide you all with a status update. I’ve already seen a few others on Reddit in the same boat and want to get this resolved for everyone.

User search in Stadia is behaving just like PSN used to before they fixed it; User searches are not turning up exact matches.   For example, try to search for “spiderman”. Did you find him? No. Search for “spiderma”. Did you find him? Yes. Right at the top of the list too.   Exact searches are not appearing at the top of our searches and sometimes not appearing at all. To find someone, I am constantly needing to drop the last letter of their name and then search.   I reported this feedback in the app too, but I wanted to bring it to the forums attention to help it gain traction.

I’m still waiting to hear back from tier 2 support. They are supposed to email me.  I could ask them to swap names and then swap back, but as you mentioned, no one knows the cool down time or if... See more...
I’m still waiting to hear back from tier 2 support. They are supposed to email me.  I could ask them to swap names and then swap back, but as you mentioned, no one knows the cool down time or if it would get taken by someone else. At this point, primary support seems like they are just getting the hang of Stadia, so I don’t feel comfortable pushing them to attempt these swaps. If something goes wrong, I doubt I’ll get my name back. I’ll just hold tight for tier 2 to email me. Maybe if staff on these forums sees this thread they can help check that there really is a ticket with tier 2.

That’s correct. You enter your code, accept their terms by scrolling down and clicking a checkbox, then you pick you name. Takes about 10-15 seconds from when you get that email. 
Yes. I was fortunate enough to get my code 2 minutes after they were released. I hope your code shows up soon!

Just a warning to everyone, but it appears that even support cannot change the case of your Stadia name. In the heat of the moment as I rushed to claim my name before anyone else, I accidentally claimed it without a capital letter. Now my name is stuck lowercase and phone support is unable to fix it because the system thinks they are trying to reclaim my existing name. Hopefully this is something that Google will allow in the future, so I don’t mind too much, but I wanted to give this warning to everyone. Be careful when choosing your name. Edit: I called support again and now I am escalated to tier 2 technical support. They will respond to me via email apparently. I’ll let you all know what happens next.
