Wired Stadia Controller To PC Drops Connection

Jump to Best Response

My buddy has a Stadia controller wired to his PC. Many times, after some time of gameplay, the controller suddenly stops working and will not reconnect. (He usually has to switch to an Xbox controller to keep playing). This has happened on multiple games and he has tried factory reset, with no change.

Now, if I understand correctly, a wired Stadia controller is no longer utilizing the wifi connection so a drop in wifi wouldn't explain it. Any other ideas?

Hey @LovecraftTapes,

You are correct and should not need to use the WiFi at all when it’s connected by USB. My first guess is that the cord might need to be replaced. If that still doesn’t work, I’d try using an incognito window to see if you can reproduce the issue. If that still isn’t working, you might want to check your warranty.

Also partly dependent on the length, thickness and quality of the cable.

More than one USB extension cable at a time also regularly produces the same problem.

a HTML5 Controller test can give you more insight into whether (almost) everything is there.

@MrVacca Good ideas to check the cable and use incognito mode. I'm also going to connect remotely and check his usb power settings to make sure it's not going to sleep prematurely.
