Upgrade for Stadia Controller

Hey Everyone

I am wondering if there are various ways to upgrade the Stadia controller when an update is available.

They way I play is not through the use of a Chrome Cast, but I think that is the only way to complete the upgrade. Is this correct or is there another way to do it?

I get prompted to upgrade my controller while playing on PC with this message

"Controller update available Use the Stadia mobile app to connect your controller to Wi-Fi and install the latest controller update."

When i connect to my Pixel3a with USB and open the app I dont receive any upgrade notification.

Thanks in advance for any help

@Jamieson Ok I just tried this. Go open your Stadia app, and tap on the controller icon at the top. It will say something like 'looking for Stadia controller'. After that, turn on your Stadia controller by holding the Stadia button. Wait for a bit, and you should see a message that your Stadia controller is updating. That's literally what's happening with mine right now.

Good luck and let me know if you still have any issue.

@Ivan thanks for checking this out for me - Sadly I didnt have the same results as you. I have never connected to chrome cast. When it completes the ' looking for controller", finds it and then it says Ready to Link, i select it and it goes to a screen that says linking with chromecast

again thanks for the help though

@Jamieson If that's the case, what' I'm guessing is that the update is only needed for playing Stadia through Chromecast using Stadia controller (which is currently the only way you can play Stadia games through Chromecast). So you might not need the update after all even you get prompted playing on PC.

Another note, the support for wireless Stadia controller is rolled out today for playing on PC. Can you try to pair it when the option is available (it's still currently being rolled out). When you open up Stadia, there should be a controller icon at the top. Click on that and go through the process, see what happens (the option isn't available yet on mine)

@Jamieson Another thing, do you still get the prompt to update when you plug in to PC? I just tried to connect my Stadia controller to the Stadia app, and it also only shows 'ready to link', so I guess that means the controller is already on the latest update. Might be the same case for you as well.

You might need to connect the controller to the internet before updating.
