USB-C Headset: Yes or No?

I have a USB headset that I am trying to use on the the Stadia Controller with a usb-c adapter.

I get no sound, but the Stadia Controller will power up the headset.

The volume is turned up on the Headset, Stadia, and Chromecast Ultra.

The headset functions properly via USB on my Laptop running Linux.

The headset functions properly via a USB-C adapter on a Pixel XL running Android 10

The sound works fine via the 3.5 audio jack on the Stadia Controller and an old scrubby pair of headphones.

Please advise.

@ThirtyThree According to this help forum, the Stadia controller supports USB headsets through the USB port (it's not referring to USB C, but I assume it is since there's no other USB port on the controller)

USB port

USB-C port for charging, wired gameplay, USB headsets, and Tandem Mode

It doesn't say anything about compatibility though. By any chance, do you have other USB headset that you can try on? Just want to make sure if it's the issue with the controller or the headset itself.

Also, have you made sure that the sound output is set to the controller?

Hi there, thank you for your response.

I do not have another usb headset to try with the Stadia Controller.

As stated in my initial post, the headset works fine on my laptop running Linux via USB, and it works via a USB-C adapter on my Pixel XL. However, I do not play Stadia on these devices. I only play via Chromecast Ultra with a Stadia Controller.

Also, have you made sure that the sound output is set to the controller?

I assume that it is, because sound works via the 3.5mm audio jack with some old headphones, as stated in my initial post.

Where do I find this setting? Is it in the Chromecast Ultra settings?

Stadia Settings?

Is there someone from Stadia that can be tagged to chime in on this?

@Ivan

Anyone? Anyone one from Stadia?

Why was this marked solved with an absolute non-answer? I am on the brink of selling the 3 Stadia Controllers w/ CCU and cancel the 3 Pro subscriptions my family has.

Purchasing Stadia has been a miserable experience so far.

Hi @ThirtyThree - first of all, I wasn't the one marking my reply as solved. The term is actually "best response", so even if it's marked, it doesn't always means it's solved. All I did was pointing to the official help page, which may not solve your issue in this case, but may be helpful to others that happen to read this post as well.

Sorry somehow I missed your earlier reply. There are many variations of USB C headsets and some may not be supported by Stadia (that's why I asked earlier if you have another headsets to try on)

Can you provide the brand/model of the headset for me? I'll look around for more info. You can also submit feedback through the app so the Stadia team is aware of the issue.

In the mean time, can you use a regular 3.5mm headset instead?

@Ivan I am in a similar position. I have some razer krakens which I have plugged in to the controller through usb c and it gets power but no audio comes through. Is there a setting where I can choose the audio to go through that?

@Gresh Are you playing on PC/laptop? If yes, try to check your sound setting on your bottom right taskbar and see if it's switched to the controller.

@Gresh To my understanding is that it's supposed to just work when you're using it with Chromecast Ultra. Do you have other USB C headsets that you can try on by any chance? I've heard stories of how different brands of USB C headphones gives different result, so I'm afraid there's much I can help here.
