Stadia Controller thinks Mic is a headset :(

Jump to Best Response

Hello

( I play Stadia on Chrome Cast Ultra 4K with 5.1 Surround Sound + HDR + 4K at 10G per second via CAT6 -> full fibre  )

So I saw that you needed a mic as you could not use the controller one I did not want a headset. So Stadia was saying connect a mic to talk in party or game chat. So I went to eBay and got a mic. I plug the mic into the controller and it thinks that it is a headset :disappointed_face:

Here is a picture

The Jack is 3.5MM anything that I need todo or is this an issue with google :disappointed_face:

As far as I can see in this article it seems that only a headset is supported atm for Stadia voice chat.

From your picture it looks like your playing Stadia via Chrome Browser on your laptop, so in that case you can also check if you can edit the mic permissions on the Chrome Browser and see if that fixes the issue. You can find instructions in this article.

You can also check with the Stadia support if there is anything else you can do, but apart from the things I mentioned above, I believe all you can do for the moment is to leave feedback for the developers that you would love to see support for mic-only for the Stadia controller (you can leave feedback by clicking your profile picture in the top right corner on stadia.google.com or in the Stadia app and select "feedback").

In that case, a mic like this will not currently work with the Stadia controller as it looks for a headset (the 3.5mm jack is set up differently for a solo mic, headphones and a headset), so this isn't something that's easy to force.

You might have some luck using an adapter that takes an input from a separate mic and headphones and converts them to a single 4-pole 3.5mm jack. I have just tested myself and it worked with the mic and headphones that were separate, but this is a workaround and I cannot guarantee it'll work for you.

I'd also recommend leaving some feedback through the Stadia App as something you'd like adding full support for in the future :slightly_smiling_face:
