Stadia Controller STOPPED connecting to WIFI

Jump to Best Response

Had Stadia since the start of this year it was easy to setup and been using it with no issues what so ever until now.

Today I went to dive into Cyberpunk and turned the controller on and got the white light which shows its connected and nothing the controller was unresponsive.

I held the stadia button to turn off and back on the controller, only this time to be greeted with the Orange light - which means its not connected to the WIFI. Nothing has changed with my wifi or passwords and everything else in my house remains connected to wifi and working with no issues, including the chromecast Ultra.

For the life of me I have tried everything on these forums and google however,  I cannot connect this back up to my wifi - whatever I do it comes up with "Controller can't connect to the WIFI?

- I have restarted my router numerous times (Google Nest wifi)
- Reset the controller WIFI (Power + Y)
- Reset the controller back to factory settings (Google Voice + Google screenshot buttons)
- Restarted my iPhone
- Deleted the Stadia app off my iPhone and redownloaded and logged back in?

I follow this process but get the same result:
- Launch the Stadia app on my iPhone (on wifi network)
- Turn on Controller (orange light)
- Launching the app it can see the controller and asks me to connect controller to the WIFI
- Level unlocks and the controller vibrates
- Asks to connect to the same WIFI network as iPhone (yes)
- Enter wifi password (which is correct)
- Attempts to connect to WIFI - then states Controller can't connect to wifi

HELP!

RESOLVED: Posting an update as this as it may help someone in a similar situation.

Having tried everything mentioned above in my original post, I spoke to a nice CS guy on Stadia who interestingly ruled out a faulty controller, by getting me to use my phone as a Personal Hotspot and the Stadia Controller connected easily to it - so this did leave my ISP (Virgin Media) or the router (Google Wifi) as the possible culprit.

For me, it was more likely the router as the issue was connecting to it. On the Google Wifi Router. you can also setup  a separate guest network, so I connected my iPhone to the guest network and once again was able to pair the Stadia controller to it with no issues, however, when I attempted to do this again to my main network with all my devices on, once again it failed.

Having already turned the Google Wifi on/off numerous times, I was about to resort to a full factory reset of the Google Wifi Router , however I justread another article online that restarting the network from within the Google WIFI App had resolved a similar issue for another user. So in the App I hit 'Restart Network' 30-seconds later everything came back online and when I attempted to reconnect the Stadia Controller to my main network it worked! :slightly_smiling_face:

So I agree with @AndreaGilfone there must of been a conflict with possible IP on the devices connected and only a 'Restart Network' from within the Google Wifi App  resolved the issue.

Hope this can help anyone else with a similar issue, and save you loosing two days of gaming!

Sad to hear but If you have already tried all the things you said you may have a defective controller, you should contact the support and ask for a replacement https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9356542 (the page may be different depending on your country, but the contact page should be the same)

You can find the contacts here: g.co/stadia/contact

I had same issue. There is an device connected that probably have the same ip of your controller. Try to shoot down all the devices connected to your router and then try to connect your controller trough WiFi. It will work.

In my case my laptop was interfering with the network and did not allow me to connect the controller.

Well.. it was really complex to pin the issue! thanks for sharing how you solved it! weird that the full factory reset still not solved the ip issue!
