Stadia Controller Continues to disconnect

Jump to Best Response
So I am playing NBA 2K and as I progressed of the game the controller continues to disconnect. It takes me about 15 minutes to get to reconnect so I can resume playing but it makes for a very miserable gaming experience. Anybody have any solution?

Best you can do is checking your internet connection, maybe even factory data reset your controller and contact Stadia support for more troubleshooting steps. It might also be that the controller is defective and needs a replacement, but a Google employee can help you more with figuring that out.

I Also face the same problem. Sometimes I can play sometimes it seems that the controller is disconnected. This game has several bugs at stadia. What's the solution?

I have similar problems. Controller loses connection suddenly or starts lagging and not accepting commands. i assume this is due to bad connection with the server, but my wireless router is 2 m away and running with 100-200mbit Please fix this Google!

the same goes for me . Sometimes it works and sometimes I can hardly play because it loses its connection so often.

I have (had) 2 controllers and both of them have this issue playing any game on Stadia.  These seems to indicate the problem is with the router.  I have a router that is less than 1 year old, and is considered a gaming router.  (Not cheap.)  It is basically less than 10 feet away through a wall.

My network is set to auto-select 2Ghz/5Ghz, I have not tried changing that, but that is my first thought.  I have not contacted support about this yet, and have not tried any trouble shooting on my router.

There are times when this is REALLY bad, and other times it is flawless.  It seems to be at its worst when I start a gaming session, and then gets better throughout.

It is extremely frustrating when you are about to pick up your loot from a team event on D2!!!

I have repeatedly had this issue, mostly with FFXV , the controller will suddenly stop responding to inputs for a few seconds. Also had the controller totally loose it's link with the chromecast and I have to go through factory resetting the controller, then re-binding it to the chromecast.

I am also having this issue. I think the controller loses the wifi connection intermittently - even if it is fully charged. When my controller disconnects I can reconnect it by sitting right in front of the TV (closer to the chrome cast) and it reconnects. This is very frustrating - I normally sit 10ft from the chrome cast which should be plenty range for a strong connection to the controller. Please Google provide some feedback on how to remedy this.

You are right @Alex2.That is the easiest solution

Use the controller in a 2.4G WIFI and the Chromecast in a 5G WIFI.

Doesn’t the controller and Comcast have to be on the same network? How do you put your controller on 2.4 but the chromecast on 5?

Most routers combine both WiFi methodes to one local network so this should work just fine in most cases.
Some routers can split these networks but mostly that is not handy. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have been fighting with terrible lag and disconnections from my Stadia controller for a long time. In almost every game I tried I would constantly end up losing control and wondering off into the enemy or walk off a cliff and it was driving me insane. I came to this forum looking for answers and when I read this I didn't think it would make much of a difference, I always assumed that the controller and my chromebook had to be on the same network. My wifi is set up with different names for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands so it was an easy test to complete. I did a factory reset on my controller and when I went through the setup process I changed the network from the one suggested (the 5GHz) to my other one. What a difference it made! It completely stopped the lag outs and since trying this it hasn't happened again. If anyone is experiencing the same kind of hell I was going through do yourself a favor and try this, even if you have to split up your unified network into separate 2.4 and 5 bands.

I've got the stadia premier and the chromecast ultra combo they gave away for free for youtube premium subscribers and I've started having the same issue. Ill be playing destiny 2, usually doing a strike, and the game will glitch out and lose connection. The controller turns off and I've got to reconnect it. Right now I'm having the issue where I turn the controller back on, connect it to the chromecast, and then the controller immediately disconnects and shuts off. Battery is fine, internet is fine running about 113 Mb average. Whats the deal? Are too many people using stadia now and overloading the servers?

My controller is disconnecting only when I try to launch cyberpunk..  like it works all the way until the loading screen.. then I get to the open screen that shows the level loaded but also a warning that says controller is disconnected and it never connects back.. I tried 5 times so far.   Help.

I'm having the same issue. Controller inputs works until I get to the cyber punk main menu and then it vibrates and disconnects and turns off.

Hey are you using the founder edition or the premier edition controller? Also do you have headphones I'm at the same time?

Same issue as above.

(Not founders edition, the other one).

Had headphones attached the very first time it happened. Happens though with or without now. Has never worked past the loading screen.

I have the Premium edition and never connected headphones. I solved my problem with one of the solutions above. I thought I have my controller connected to the 2.4 Hz wireless network but it was actually on 5 Hz. As soon as I reset the controller and made sure the controller connected to 2.4 Hz wireless it works every time. I still have my chromecast connected to 5 Hz.

Where  is the stadia team, no solution from them seriously?

I feel that Stadia is not going to be around for the long term based on the limited resources that Google has allocated to it. It still feels very “beta” to me.

I'm really upset because I've spent money on the pro service and I've bought a couple games, but if they end up shutting it down, will they reimburse me for my purchases? Or will I just have a useless hunk of plastic with no ability to play the games I spent my money on?

I doubt there would be any reimbursement. I stopped buying games after Cyberpunk (which has never played in 4K for me) for this reason. I only subscribe to pro and play the monthly free ones.

Hi @loosygoosie,

It looks like there are a few Best Responses for what to do if your Stadia Controller disconnects. I'd recommend starting there in your troubleshooting steps. Since this is an older conversation (and for better visibility), I'd recommend creating a new post if you still need assistance after trying out the recommended troubleshooting steps. We'll be locking the thread now.

Best,

James
