Stadia Controller Connected via Bluetooth

Jump to Best Response

Does anyone know if there are plans/rumors that the Stadia controller will eventually be able to connect via Bluetooth to a mobile device? Does it even have Bluetooth? Should I just buy another Bluetooth controller? I'm honestly loving the way Stadia is performing on my wireless network and hate that I have to use the touchpad when I have the controller.

The Stadia controller has Bluetooth hardware, but it's only used for initial setup and configuration. It's really designed to connect via WiFi, but also supports USB. It may be possible to make it work via Bluetooth, but I don't expect it's a high priority when there are two alternative methods already. Just get a short USB cable and connect it directly.

Why not Zoidberg?

Enable Bluetooth connectivity for the stadia controller already.

It's pretty useless otherwise.

True story....so disappointed that there is no Bluetooth option. It's a **bleep** shame too because I really like the controller. With the way it's currently set up, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't just buy an XB or PS controller instead as it will work with almost any device over Bluetooth on any game that device can run, does not require a wifi connection, and is certified as stadia compatible as well. As it stands if your out and about with your phone and want to play stadia games...you are screwed without a wifi connection.....5G phones are here and faster than some peoples home internet so why not allow a Bluetooth connection to let people play stadia in any situation (like GeForce now) Right now the only advantage I see to having the stadia controller itself is if you want to play PC games on the TV as you cant play stadia on your television without a chromcast ultra unless you do some hacking...

For real, what was the value in getting the controller if it only works in a very unique situation?  I can pick up any controller for a modern console and sync it via bluetooth to a PC, android device, ect. The Stadia app even added support for these other consoles controllers. But without bluetooth sync on the Stadia controller, its just a pretty paperweight if you are not playing on Stadia. It really makes me wonder why I purchased the controller, if I could have used things that were already available. It only makes it worse knowing that this could be managed by a software update.

I agree it's mostly a space waster and paper weight at the moment. I bought 3 controllers when stadia launched, and all though I do still play stadia once in a while, I had to buy an xbox controller to play more of the other games that aren't on stadia that I still play. If I could do it all over again, I would have just bought xbox controllers for the versatility. Stadia controllers are the best feeling out there, it's a real shame they aren't more versatile. (Google makes plenty of devices, why not make these controllers work for everything???) Unfortunately (especially with cloud gaming and Amazon launching too) unless you sick with xbox controllers, the industry is forcing us gamers into their proprietary controllers for their platforms. Make me wonder why I didn't just but an xbox.

"Product contains Bluetooth Classic radio. No Bluetooth Classic functionality is enabled at this time. Bluetooth Classic functionality may be implemented at a later date."

It's a Classic bluetooth radio, from the Stadia page.

So it can in theory be used has a classic bluetooth controller, it's a software issue and can be updated...

I love the Stadia controller.  I would like to use it on my Shield, Rasberry Pie or wirelessly on my laptop for non stadia games.   Enabling bluetooth would really help everyone.  Even if the experience on stadia falters a bit.  Just recommend wifi and usb controls for stadia.  Don't hold back this beautiful controller capabilities!   Let us decide how best to use the hardware!
