Pixel 4 - Wireless Connection to Stadia Controller

Jump to Best Response

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I can not get my stadia controller to connect to my pixel 4 for wireless play. Connects no problem to Chromecast and my pixel book, just not my pixel 4. Anyone else experiencing this?

I figured it out. I use Google Fi phone service and use their VPN. That was causing the issue where the controller would not connect with the phone. I tried turning off the vpn and it connected instantly.

You would think 2 sister services, Google Fi and Stadia would have thought of that to at least let us know in the support.

I chatted with Stadia support, they didn't know.

Anyway, that was the issue.

@TheBurglekutt Did you make sure that the controller was completely unlinked to other devices beforehand? Hold the Stadia controller as it's turning on until it vibrates twice and it should forget the previous connected device.

@NateWill What happens when you try to connect? What lights appear on the controller?

@Deleted User it vibrates then goes solid white for about 10 seconds . Goes orange for a second then back to white for 10 seconds . I think it vibrates then just blinks orange continuously.  Very strange sequence . I've already done the wifi set up beforehand so my controller shows ready to link before I even try and type in the linking code

@NateWill Sounds like you have a defective controller, try contacting the live chat support and let us know if you're able to find a solution, this will better help everyone in the future!

@NateWill that is the sequence that is telling you it can't connect to the same wifi. For example most of the time in an airport, you have to go to a webpage once accept the wifi policy and you are connected. Since your controller can't get past that step, it won't connect and gives you that sequence.

Same if you are in a hotel.

Same if you are on a vpn.

So bring a cable and connect via the wire to get around those circumstances.

There is nothing wrong with your controller, it is not defective.

Disabling Fi VPN solved this issue for me as well. Was connecting to CCU and PC perfectly, though while visible to link in phone I could not get a connection. Thanks for figuring this out, hope it helps someone else out as well!
