You need to link your Stadia Controller to a screen before you can use it to play. In order to play on a TV with Chromecast, a mobile device, or on web with Chrome, you’ll need to use a linking code to link your Stadia Controller wirelessly.
To let your Stadia Controller know which screen you want to play on wirelessly, you’ll need to enter a linking code for that screen. The linking code lets you easily change which screen your controller is linked to. Each screen will have its own unique linking code that will rarely change.
Enter linking codes from left to right, one button at a time. Linking codes are 4-5 characters long and consist of only Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, X, Y.
Here is a sample of what a linking code looks like. The code for your screen will be different.
Note: If the status light blinks orange, it means the controller can’t connect to Wi-Fi. Open the controller menu in the Stadia app to set up the controller with Wi-Fi. If you need to change the Wi-Fi on your Chromecast, use the Google Home app.
I am already using Google DNS (8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8).
I tried also to use my smartphone as a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect the controller therefore I don't think it's a router problem.
My router is made in Germany. It's a very advanced device.
I've just tried with a Netgear DGN 2200, same rusult. I'm going crazy.
How does the controller communicate with a smartphone at first connection? Does it use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?
I believe it connects with the wifi but needs Bluetooth on to establish the connection then uses the wifi to join. Not 100% sure. Have you tried to do reset the stadia remote by shutting down the remote then, hold down the S button and hold down the Y button then release the S button after 6 seconds.
If you have the dns of Google, try finding the location access on your Google account and see if it syncs with your phone. Just curious if your location is not being detected by Google when its using the Stadia. I think it uses it but not sure.
I use the link, my controller connects, it vibrates en turns solid white but then it shuts down.
I use a stadia controller and chrome browser. Sometimes it does connect and then I will get a message on my chrome page.
How can I fix this?
Issues like this I've seen it to happen to me but look at the previous posts and try to follow the steps of rebooting your router, disabling any security apps on the router and try again.
When trying to connect my stadia controller through the iOS pwa it will blink orange a couple times and vibrate then go back to blinking white. I can connect it to my chromecast and google chrome on the iOS devices with no issue, however it is very intermittent with the iOS pwa. I’d say of the 30 tries it has connected twice.
From what I see on the stadia support page this blinking orange three times indicates an incorrect linking code has been entered, however I know that is not the case.
If you have any suggestions to try I would appreciate the help!
My controller will not accept the code from Chromecast or mobile device. Always indicating invalid code. Several tries generates orange blink... what to do?
Try by resetting the stadia by powering off the remote, press and hold the S button and the Y button at the same time for about 6 seconds and release. Start the pairing process again on the app. Also, reboot the router before resetting the remote and see if it helps.
While I could get my Stadia controller on WiFi, it wouldn't connect to my Chromecast.
I saw one user had to change his MTU setting on his router, I tried that, and it didn't help. However, disabling Jumbo Frames did. So it seems like the Stadia controller will not work on a network using jumbo frames.
Here is another trick I found when having issues connecting to the Stadia remote. Connect your Chromecast Ultras ethernet connection on the power supply to a router. The minute this happens, it connects to the remote with no issues.
Good luck.
I connected my Chromecast to ether and works perfectly, I thought it was the controller.
Sooo
I'm very siked! about this Stadia... But I haven't been able to connect my controller to my phone and use my phone a screen and console. I've got 5Ge sooo internet isn't a problem.
I do not want to rely on wifi... But if I do have to use it... I have another phone i tether to and attempt to use... But still no success... Is there anyway, i can Bluetooth my controller to my phone and use my phone as a screen and console with out going Fking WiFi!,......
First off, what type of phone, make and model, carrier sounds like att or t-mobile, and 5Ge is still really 4g lte. Here is an article describing the differences. https://www.lifewire.com/5ge-vs-5g-5077767
Try doing a speedtest via an app, ookla, etc and see how fast is your download and upload speeds.
My Stadia controller won't connect to my Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite. I start Stadia Android app, the controller appears ready to connect, white led blinking, I put in the correct code, controller vibrates, solid white led but no reaction on the phone (purple colors code), 5 seconds later controller vibrates again and orange led blinking, in the app it states controller can't connect to screen.
Troubleshooting steps:
- CCU with utp works perfectly
- wife's phone (Huawei p30) works perfectly on the same wifi as my Xiaomi
- restarted my phone
- reinstalled stadia app
- reset controller with Y+Stadia button
- I have 3 Stadia controllers, none of them can connect to my Xiaomi.
- it has worked in the past, it's now a week that the controllers won't connect. I've had the same issue some weeks ago and suddenly it connected again.
It's driving me nuts. It has to be an issue with my phone because it works on my wife's phone.
First off, I guess Google got rid of chat support?
Having controller/connectivity issues on specific devices. It was working fine for about a month (from December to mid-January) but completely unusable now.
On my laptop and phone (Samsung S9+) it works fine but when I try to connect to my Chromecast Ultra, or, Stadia app loaded on my Nvidia Shield Pro, it connects for about 30 seconds tops and disconnects. I then try to reconnect and it does show it's connected on the controller (solid white light) but nothing happens on screen and the controller turns off after 30 seconds.
I've tried charging, doing factory resets on affected devices, putting controller wifi on 2.4g - but nothing. All devices are on the same wifi connection.
I'm connected to an network extender (TP Link AC1750) but as I mentioned, it was working flawlessly for a while then suddenly stopped at the same time on those devices.
Hoping someone can shed some light!
I feel like the controller would link better if the controller linked via BLUETOOTH, but that's just mine and THOUSANDS of other people's opinions.
So I think I now know why google has been giving these controllers away when you have youtube premium. THEY DONT WORK, this is the most aggravating freaking thing I have ever dealt with. It works only when it feels like it, you have said on support pages that it will now support connection through wifi to pc but it does not, when connected via cable to pc it only works when it feels like it. I honestly think I am going to send back the free item because I would rather pay for a controller that I don't have to worry about it only working when it wants to. I mean it wont even power up with the cable, the power block, without the cable as well. When you connect it to your pc it registers that you are connecting something but then figures it just some generic bootloader. You have no drivers available to help with this issue, and don't seem to be able to help anyone at all with this. Thanks for the free paperweight.
hi,
i just have this problem, didnt have it this morning, I restar the chrome, everything..
Same stuff.. Seems like it comes from Google's side![]()
yes, bt well, already fixed
It seems google doesn’t have it all together and can provide no help and neither can this forum STADIA IS A SCAM
My controller instantly connects to a different device and doesn't give me the chance to type in the code of the new device how do I get it to connect to my new device when the controller keeps connecting to the old device in giving a solid white light how can I reset the controller
I'm trying very thorough on what it takes for the functionality of a stadia controller to work so I do as I instruct or as I'm instructed and that as I see on the screen within a stadia app it shows that I would have the remote come on and I wait for a white light and so I input the the whatever is requesting as it as is shown on the screen and it's as if as soon as I start typing the light immediately goes to a flashing orange and it does not give me enough time to input what it wants for what it refers to as something that appears to be a code and so I input what I can and I wait a long time just to give it plenty of time to connect to what it shows as is as if it will connect to Wi-Fi but I'm having a concern where I don't understand where any functionalities involved because as through as I'm being with the stadia controller that I just bought from the Google store I don't see any functionality
Somehow even though the instructions for a stadia controller to work with a location that is being shown are showing a code it specifies that the stadia controller will connect using Wi-Fi and I don't see how it will connect to a location with Wi-Fi
In the instructions within the app and within the booklet that come with the stadia controller is specifies that it will connect with Wi-Fi but how does it connect with Wi-Fi there's no direct instruction that to say that it'll connect with Wi-Fi is very big because to connect with Wi-Fi I figured that there's something involved the key
The city controller immediate flashes a white light when comes on when it comes on but immediately wants the white light stops it only flashes about four times and it isn't enough time to input the code that they show
Google I'm honestly worried that the city controller does not work it does not connect I see that it is supposed to cut my Wi-Fi but I figured it would be Bluetooth and I don't see anywhere else I can try to connect the city controller to input its information it would want or need so that it would connect to my Wi-Fi network or if it will connect to my Chromecast my Chromecast device Chromecast TV
Those sushi
My controller inconsistently connects to Wifi from my phone app, but once connected is unable to link to my chrome cast. The controller blinks white as to show it's connected to wifi and ready to pair, but when the correct linking code is inputted, the controller vibrates and flashes orange twice. Restarted chrome cast, controller, and phone multiple time but still same result
Exactly same issue here....have tried resetting CCU, Stadia Controller. Hard and factory resets. Also connecting by Ethernet Cable/Wifi but to no avail.
I had an issue with my chromecast today, it was very hot, and had very bad wifi. Disconnected it from electricity, reconnected after about 15 min, setup worked fine, since then i cannot connect my stadia controller to anything. Resetted it already 4 times, tried it with the code, and the mobile app nothing works. The mobile app tells me "issue with the connection to the service". Has anyone an idea ? Had the connection issue once, and an reset worked fine then...
Edit: somehow it works again on the next day, don´t know why, if someone has tips for the future, it would be great ![]()
I have 2 controllers and they never link up to my 2x Chromecasts, Laptop and phone the first time. It is usually after 2 or 3 attemps that it connects.
Anyone else have this issue?
Hi everyone,
Thanks to your responses on this post. I just wanted to hop in here to give some clarity. This post was originally created at launch for educational purposes. Since this is an older topic, I'd recommend for everyone to create a new post asking for further assistance if you are still struggling with linking your Stadia Controller. With that said, we'll go ahead and close this post so that other people down the road can get help quicker by creating a new topic.
Thank you,
James
