Input lag if two controllers on same wifi

Jump to Best Response

Hi all, a few months ago I was pretty disappointed that we were getting unprecedented lag in Stadia when playing co-op using two devices (Laptop and Chromecast), both with Stadia Controllers. This had never happened before, and nothing had changed.

The lag would only happen if both of us were trying to actively use the controllers at the same time - e.g. move/aim/shoot.

Fast forward a few months, and a few more tries (and a new router) and it finally clicked that we were only getting input lag. Not visual lag.

Literally the second I started using the trackpad and keyboard (even with the controller still connected), the input lag on the other device completely stopped. I understand the controllers both have their own wifi connection, I tried giving them "priority", but this had no effect.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Easily my favourite controllers!

Hi @Odinsson

I am sorry if I confused a bit but I meant to say please try connecting your controller to a 2.4GHz. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
My guess is that because your SSID is combination of 2.4GHz and 5GHz the controller will connect to the 5GHz.

Hi @Odinsson,

How is your setup currently?
Do you have a seperate WiFi SSID for your 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

When I had some issues with the connectivity and controllers this when the Stadia controller was connected to a 5GHz wifi.
Try connecting your Stadia controllers to 2.4GHz if this is not yet the case. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the reply @RXShorty . I've got combined 2.4 and 5, and looks like the controller is already on 5. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ah my bad! I misread your message. I'll try the 2.4!
