Destiny 2 audio fails on joining party chat

At the moment when I try and join a destiny 2 party chat the audio fails, controller is disconnecting itself from stadia and won't connect to the party chat. This is happening with two different controllers and is using a USBc headphone connection.

This setup had been working perfectly up until a few days ago.

Really frustrating experience at the moment

Hi @Vitop - What device are you playing on?

Playing on a chromecast ultra plugged into a Samsung TV. Just tried to connect now and as soon as I started a party and someone joined the controller shutdown and on it restarting I have no sound even if I disconnect the headset.

This all started about 2/3 weeks ago now. Not sure if there is a bug but it's quite frustrating!

Hi @Vitop,

How is your Stadia controller connected?
I had some issues with my controller and fixed it by connection my Stadia controller to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.

As a workaround you could also use your smartphone for the party chat, but I know it does not have the game audio.
Hope this helps a bit. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Thanks - always used the WiFi for the controller connection. Currently my networks aren't split into 2.4 and 5Ghz.

The way the audio crashes as soon as you join a party with the audio for the game coming from the controller suggests there might be an issue syncing the game audio with the party chat when you connect.

It's really baffling as all was working fine until a few weeks ago :slightly_smiling_face:

@JamesFromGoogle

I'm sorry, is this seriously your actual response? From a technical support standpoint this response is insulting. I, as a consumer, and as part of the end user agreement, agreed with my purchase of the controller, and games that I could play, and talk with friends. Now, nearly 2 years in when I log into my account via Chromecast ultra, can see in the stadia app that my controller has lost connection to the Google server, not my internet/wifi connection, but the actual connection to Google servers for the controllers.

At this point there is a technical ticket that needs to be written to address this issue that is now plaguing thousands of stadia controller users. DO NOT LET STADIA FAIL.

I love stadia so much, the concept, the accessibility, the functionality. My fear is that if these issues are not addressed and corrected soon, there will be a mass Exodus of players.

As it stands I have 3 controllers that are practically paperweights, unless I am very, very lucky.

I am in the process of filing a bug report with them at the moment. Exchanged several direct messages with support yesterday evening .. suggestions like factory reset CCU ..reset router .. try different hdmi input .. different game etc etc. Nothing works. To me issue is 100% a bug using CCU and party voice chat and it appeared about 3 weeks ago.

Imagine some updates were introduced that is impacting a certain subset of users

I agree, very discouraging and frustrating considering the time and money not only myself, but many of my friends have spent on stadia and stadia content.

Hi. I'm experiencing the same issue with stadia controller since a couple of weeks. It happens both with:

- headset connected via jack;

- earphones connected via usb type C.

I play on a samsung smart TV with chromecast.

When it happens, controller reboots losing audio connection. Did you have any suggestion by stadia assistance?

Pietro

OK so I just managed to connect to a party but had to do the following:

1. Disconnect any headset so sound is through TV

2. Setup and join a party

3. Connect headphones to controller

This seems to work and put me into the party chat as expected.

It seems there is an issue connecting to a party with headphones connected to the controller.

Actually that works but then the voice chat randomly drops out and you have the same issue again. As soon as you reset the controller and try joining the party with the headset connected then you lose audio again.

My friends and I have the same problem as you. It’s exactly the way you describe it. We had no problems up until a few weeks ago. I’ve contacted Stadia support but they had no direct solution unfortunately. Hope they fix it soon.

EXACTLY the Same here, it worked up until 2 weeks ago,  nothing changed on my end.  Using stadia controller, chromecast ultra, and a 3.5mm plug on my headset.  I have reverted to chatting to my group through discord or signal.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to hop in here to check in again. I understand that this must be very frustrating for all of you and we'd like to do our best to get down to the bottom of what might be going on here. I did notice that @Vitop talked with our support team and confirmed the troubleshooting steps that they went through. I'd like to check in with everyone else here as well, just to make sure that everyone has tried the same steps to no avail. So if you get the opportunity, could the other users in this conversation (@Bawana, @EthieLord, @VanillaMel, @stainep) please answer the following questions:

  • Does this issue occur only in Destiny 2 or in all games you attempt to join party chat in?
  • Does this issue occur when playing on other devices like a PC or mobile device?
  • Have you tried plugging your CCU into a different HDMI port?
  • Have you factory reset your Stadia Controller and CCU?
  • Have you reset your router?

Like I said, we just want to get as much information as possible to be able to truly figure out what might be happening. We look forward to updates from all of you when you can.

Thank you,

James

Hi!

I’ve also talked to the support team. I’ve tried everything as well. I think it’s only when you play Destiny 2. My friends and I have tried a lot of different setups, but the issue only occurs when you play with your headset connected to the controller with the Stadia chat. The exact same setup but with the in-game chat works perfectly.

I have a very similar issue. started about a month ago and it's getting worse.

I play mostly Destiny 2, on Chromecast Ultra. I also tried playing on Chromecast with Google TV, but it was too glitchy. the issue happens on both.

i play in a viewsonic projector and the CC is plugged into a Denon AV receiver. CC is hardwired to the ethernet, controller has been plugged into both 2.4 and 5.0 networks.

I am using a Steelseries 7P headset. When I plug in the USBC dongle, several things might happen. Usually, the controller turns off, and sometimes turning it back on helps, sometimes it just turns back on.

Sometimes the controller goes into pairing mode, but stadia seems to think the controller is still connected, so no pairing code appears on TV.

Sometimes, when the controller starts and doesn't crash, there is no sound, no game or party chat, and no game sounds either. even removing the headset leaves no sounds through the TV.

Closing the game and restarting stadia helps sometimes.

My wife plays in a CC ultra, on a Vizio TV with a Steelseries 7X. She had no issues before.... until I plugged in the 7P dongle on her controller. Now she has the same issues on her setup with her 7X, and even with a 3.5mm headset.

Did more testing today.

Factory reset controllers and joined them to 5G 802.11n network.

Stadia is working fine on TV speakers.

Connect Arctis 7P dongle, audio works fine on headset.

Join Stadia party chat. controller reboots. goes through about 5 loops of blinking white light and vibration. After that, it goes to a blinking amber light with no vibration, and the stadia app shows the controller status as "Service Connection Error" was not able to access the stadia servers.

Restarting the controller with the dongle is does not work.

Restarting the controller without the dongle brings it back to working fine on TV speakers.

Did not try Game chat today, but what I have experienced with it in the past is similar.

Hi all, i add my experience on this.

Mostly play D2 on stadia, so can't prove with other games. It started to me also let's say 10 days ago. Before that never had a issue (ethernet ccultra on samsung smart tv).

Twice happened that suddenly the controller "crashed", first with no audio and then after 2\3 second with orange light and no "coming back".

powering it off and on with headphone plugged doesn't resolve (im using old iphone 3,5mm jack headphone)

powering off and on without heaphone solve the audio coming back from the tv BUT NO CONTROLLER CAN USED WITH STADIA ON GAME

CLOSING STADIA(that also power off the controller) and starting from zero with headphone plugged solved the whole freacking things.

Unfortunately i was kicked out from the team squad for inactivity.................................................. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hey everyone, just jumping in here. This happens to me with Borderlands 3, and started roughly about a month or so ago, end of september. There is definitely something wrong here, it was fine for me since the beginning!  Right now, the only solve i can figure out, is connecting 2 different controllers to the CCU, plug headphones in one and play with another. The issue that everyone explains does still happen, but it happens less, and at least at the point i can sill play my game. More recently, though, i've just resorted to using other ways of communicating other than the party chat.
