I'm experiencing very crackly audio (hard to hear what is happening) when using headphones and only when the controller is on WiFi (sound from the Chromecast is fine and sound from the 3.5mm jack on the headphones is fine when the controller is connected to my phone by USB C).
I have tried on two different internet connections, one of them with ridiculously good WiFi that nobody else was using and insanely low latency (with plenty of bandwidth) and another less good, and with two sets of headphones.
I have reported it via feedback, but not got any sort of reply or acknowledgement.
Hi all -- sorry to hear of your troubles. Please reach out to our Support Team in order to receive additional help.
Same here. Please fix.
Same here, audio crackling a lot using the jack.
So tired of this. Even tryed 5ghz to 2.4ghz. Beats headset, bose headphones and 2other gaming headsets...
I have this problem too, its very distracting and borderline unplayable, it makes the game feel like its lagging and skipping even though visually it isn't.
Got the same Problem here *:(
Chromecast Ultra connected via LAN cable to Fritz! 7590 250mbit DSL, Controller tested at 2,4 & 5 ghz
Same probleme here
i have same problem but when i play with 1080p its gone. It plays very good. Only when i play with 4k its crackling like hell. They now about this issue but they doing nothing about it.
I searched a lot because of this problem, I managed to solve by unplugging the CCU's wired network cable and using it via Wifi. I tried all other resets & etc, and this was the only change that really fixed the problem.
Router: FRITZ!Box 7490
Connected via: Wifi 5 GHz (both controller and Chromecast Ultra, before was wired CCU and with problems)
Max. provider speed: 50 MBit/s
Playing on: TV via Pioneer AV Receiver
Chromecast Ultra
I have almost the same hardware as you (fb 7590) and arrived exactly to the same conclusion. Is the connection of the chromecast via ethernet cable that causes the problem.
Hi my issue is the other way round: When I'm using WiFi everything is fine. When I'm using ethernet on my Chromecast Ultra (which is of course preferred) I have the crackling issue through the 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller.
I contacted support and chatted over 90 minutes with them and we could not solve the issue despite resetting the controller etc. They told me to use a different port at the router (LAN) or a different cable but it does not help.
It is so weird to me because the video stream is fine but the audio is crackling on Chromecast->LAN.
So for the moment, I use WiFi on my Chromecast Ultra and there seems to be no solution so far.
Hardware
Stadia Founders Edition Controller
Fritzbox 7590
Chromecast Ultra (ethernet=crackling, WiFi=no crackling)
Exactly same problem, and I've been trying everything i can think of.
Can you try to use LAN in a laptop or other device, and play the same scenario (wirelless controller) and see what happens? Here i have no problem at all. This seems to be a hardware problem with Chromecast Ultra / their network adapter.
I contacted google support and Fritzbox to try to get answers. Waiting on both of them. Also very strange that usually I hear this problem just from European users.
Hi, have you received an answer from AVM?
Did you have any luck by now? We have another post discussing this. I still have problems, even with 2 different CCUs. I suspect its on fritzbox 7490 with the latest OS

Same problem here since June,
I've tried many workarounds:
-ETH vs Wifi
-Start the game first, muting the chat sound, joining a solo group, whatever....nothing worked but I noticed that happens usually at night, never on the morning French Timezone.
-I dropped many plays cause of this. It annoys me, and distracts my coop team mates. But after reading so many people having issues and not a single answer from google, pointing at any direction to fix the problem, it just makes me wanting to switch to other platforms.
Google is pretty focused on sinking Stadia.
At this point the only thing that fixes the problem is to stop playing stadia games.
I have a 600mb network and a 6ms ping. No issues when playing at nVidia Geforce Now or Steam.
Have you found any solution?
I have the same problem with both jack and USB C when the controller is on wifi (no matter if I'm playing from chromecast or from pc, both on Ethernet). It's strange because there isn't input lag, I mean, there is no other connection problem.
Sings out if pitch.... "You are not aloooonee,.. ........... I..... am here with youuuuU"..
Looks like a big enough problem for a patch or hot fix if you ask me.. I'm sure nobody did.. mainly cause I'm annoying and a tad odd..
I think your post was awesome.. humorous and just what people needed when they are frustrated.. yes I know I'm replying to myself.. yes I understand it's silly.. and may lose serious cool points as far as my sanity is concerned. But to see that I have zero kudos..
None...???
Not even for the Batman from Batmetal?..
I sung and everything..
I just wanna make you smile...
But hey.. I still think you guys are awesome
I love my Stadia, even if people look at me like I'm speaking in tongues when I mention it. "Hardcore" gamers my butt.. they're just mad the can't stream it fast enough..
I digress..
Where am I? Why am I naked??
I just wonder, how come so many people have this issue, but it doesnt seem to be a global issue because many people are doing fine with audio?? is there any pattern we are in? I see founders / non founders, but is someone from US here too? could be a defective CCU shipment coming from Ireland?
EU - the Netherlands
Same here, CCU via ethernet 250 mbps, wireless WiFi controller. Using my receiver (pioneer vsx-818v) it works perfect I just found out and wanted to share this with you all. It’s connected to my tv (Phillips 55PFS8109/12) with a digital optic audio cable playing on 1080p.
Will update here if it changes, only just tested it for a few minutes on RDR2. So happy.
I could solve this issue to use WLAN connection on my Chromecast. With Lan the audio is still crackling if I use headphones on my Stadia controller. Hope this workaround could help.
Got the same problem. Controller has 780mbit wifi 5Ghz connection, fast internet, CCU 4K playing works fine.
Sound on TV via CCU is also perfect.
Controller Input is also fast and responsive.
Just those crackling sounds and slight hickups in audio.
Very annoying.
It is marked as solved how did you solve it?
I have received the premier edition yesterday and noticed the problem right away. After the tests made together with the support team, they have opened an RMA. From what I have been reading around it has not been really useful for everybody.
I kept testing it on my own and perhaps I have found out the origin of the problem. At least something that has worked for me. Could you please make a test on your side and let me know the outcome? I have already send an email to the stadia support team, let us see if they are able to solve the problem without replacing the all thing.
The problem in my case does not seem to come from the controller at all. If the controller is connected to the chromecast ultra via wifi and the connection of chromecast ultra is made via ethernet cable then the audio through the headphones is crackling. If I disconnect the headphones the audio through the speaker of the TV gets back to normal.
Now if I unplug the ethernet cable from the original power supply that came with the stadia premier edition and set up the chromecast ultra to use wifi via google home app then the issue with the headphones is gone.
So, in case you are experiencing the same issue with headphones and your chromecast ultra is connected via an ethernet cable, unplug it and see if that works for you.
If yes please report it here and perhaps contact the customer service as well.
I have the same problem as everyone here.
The sound via a headset connected to the controller (regardless of whether USB c or 3.5) crackles and has dropouts. None of the solutions here resolved this problem. It doesn't matter whether the Chromecst is connected to the router by cable or WiFi. The WiFi frequency is also irrelevant. Slowly I think that it really has something to do with the router (Fritzbox 7590), because that seems to be the only commonality here.
Yes I have the Fritzbox as well. I will make a test using another router over the weekend. By the way in my case if I unplug the the ethernet cable and leave the chromecast connecting to the Fritz via WiFi the problem disappear.
I did a test with another router from a different manufacturer and the problem is solved. No crackling audio on the headphone anymore.
it does not mean that it has to be solved by AVM, rather Stadia developers should have a look and check why the problem occurs on a certain hardware and when CCU and gamepad are not connected in the same way to the router.
I will put the Fritzbox back in place and redo the test.
Most (or all?) of the german users (like me) that are struggling with the problem also have Fritzboxes:
Do not assume the fritzbox thing is the only issue here nor the fritzbox people being the only one with the issue. Canada here, no box that you are talking about and I have the issue. Either when I am connected thru chromecast via wired network or not. Even tryed directly from the router. The issue is broader than that.
But it cannot be the controller neither since it works well when I am playing from PC (on ethernet) and gamepad (on wifi).
They proposed me a replacement but I do not know what to do. Is there anyone here who went through the RMA and solved the issue?
