I have a desktop computer that I use for playing playing Stadia and other games. It has a USB cable connected to it into which I plug a Stadia controller. Even when I'm not using the computer and it's in sleep mode, it is apparently still supplying power to the Stadia controller, as the Stadia button always glows white while it's plugged in.
Is it a bad idea to keep the Stadia controller perpetually plugged in like this? (i.e., will it damage the controller to be perpetually charging, or is it wasting a substantial amount energy to have the Stadia controller light aways on?)
I always have it plugged in to use it on the PC with an extra long nylon cable. And I only unplug it to use it with a mobile app or Android TV. That same cable I change sometimes with the mobile or the wireless mouse as well.
I consider that the energy that it will be spending is as small as any simple LED that may be out there, and the remote control, when it has more than x% of battery, should stop charging as well as mobile phones and others until it drops below x%. Or at least that should be an optimal design. And the battery while it's plugged in shouldn't be in use as the wired connection and Wi-Fi connection are totally different so you don't need to have the battery active all the time.
If it is always plugged in, it is because you use it daily, and in that case, another part of the remote may be damaged before the battery due to this use.
Still, this is all just guesswork.
@JRGariano you don't need to worry about overcharging with modern devices so it should be fine leaving your Stadia controller plugged in when you're not using it. And the amount of charge you're consuming is negligible so don't really need to worry about it.
