Controller connectivity

Jump to Best Response

From what i found out so far, the Stadia controller can connect to a pc using usb or wifi (somewhat limited) but not bluetooth (?).

That's pretty confusing already but I can't figure out how to use the WIFI connection to play local games on my pc. Is the controller limited to only support WIFI when playing games on the actual Stadia service? Can I use it's bluetooth or wifi capabilities so it gets recognised by my os as an actual game controller? If not, what's the reasoning behind this?

I can't wrap my head around a game controller that has bluetooth AND wifi but can't use neither of them to connect to a plain old pc.

The hardware inside the Stadia controller includes both a BT receiver and a WiFi chip but only the latter is being used at the moment. The controller connects directly to your WiFi network so that latency would be minimised since it can establish a more direct connection to Google servers. As for why both BT and WiFi cannot be used in conjunction, I imagine that could lead to interference or some other issues. You can also connect the controller directly to your PC via a USB-C cable and play that way in the absence of a WiFi network. Or use any other controller that supports BT connectivity instead.

Refer the below support page for steps on how to connect your controller to your WiFi network.
