Connection issues

Jump to Best Response

I have xfinity wifi and every time I test the connection its saying over 300 MB/s. Yet somehow stadia on my Chromecast, and phone say bad connection. And now when I launch a game and enter the code, the controller vibrates and signifies it is connected, but the code on the TV never goes away. I'm super annoyed. It ran great the first day so I purchased 2 games, and now on day 2 its being crappy.

Hi @Jcates223, sorry to hear you're having problems.

The biggest factor in determining your ability to play on Stadia without issue is your connection strength. There are multiple things affecting your connection strength, including bandwidth (your down/up speed), stability (meaning your connection must not be interrupted by lost packets), and whether you're on wi-fi or LAN.

In most cases, playing on wi-fi is adequate, but you stand to lose a far greater portion of your signal strength when playing on wi-fi, so it is important to ensure that you are playing on a device located close to your router in order to maximize your signal strength. Additionally, if you are located in a densely populated area, your wi-fi channel may be in use by a multitude of other devices, which can quickly lead to a noticeable degradation in quality.

My advice to you is to look into a standalone router which can be more dynamically configured to prioritize Stadia traffic. You would, in this case, be able to change the wi-fi channel from its standard setting to one that is less frequently used. Additionally, if you are able to test Stadia on a device that is hard-wired into the router/gateway, that would help us determine if wi-fi is the issue.

Try Luna. I recently switched to it and the controller seamlessly connects to any device you are playing on without clicking on any setting or pairing. Plus it is already touching or exceeding Stadia’s performance right now, while Stadia took 1 yr and still hasn’t matured enough to rid of these small annoyances.

Stadia is good as backup for games you already purchased.

Then perhaps Google's testing tool should test for these things, because the tool says my connection is excellent, and yet I get constant drops when playing on a 500 up and down line with 15ms latency. This forum is peppered with similar comments and zero answers. You've literally done nothing to help this person with this issue other than spout the same junk posted elsewhere. What are we supposed to do about this, I'm already invested and my games play like garbage. All tests say my connection is working perfectly, even when testing as Google warns of dropping my connection. Now what?!?

As previous commenter says - perhaps there should be a stadia-specific connection test. I'm sure you have the resources to create and maintain such a thing. I've got 425Mbps on your speed test and yet can't play due to poor connection. Tried the usual suggestions - incognito, LAN, etc, etc. Luckily I haven't bought anything, and I'm very glad I haven't. As far as I can tell, stadia is simply not fit for purpose for an awful lot of people - me included.
