Hi There,
First time user of google hardware here, not happy as the setup process fails for me. Tried for a couple of hours now, reading the help forum, trying resets and the like...nothing helped.
I followed the steps onhttps://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9605175
....Scroll down the Ambient mode screen. Under "Stadia Controller linking code", select Show. The linking code should appear on the screen.
=> THERE IS NO "Stadia Controller linking code" option in the Google Home app, under:
IT SADLY DOES NOT APPEAR.
- both Chromecast Ultra and controller are on the same network
- factory reset done on Chromecast Ultra
- reset done on stadia controller with Y+pwr-button
- Cast Firmware version: 1.49.230269
Help very much appreciated.
Interesting. Ok, so I guess I'd suggest joining the preview program on that CCU then to see if it resolves the issue. If you don't want to remain on the preview channel, you can leave it after it updates the firmware once, and the next stable release that comes out should apply.
Hello @andyouwill888
The latest production Chromecast Ultra firmware version is 1.42.183786 – did you join the firmware preview program by chance?
Hi @JohnZoidberg,
No I did not. I simply ordered it direct from google a few days ago, and when I plugged it in, it said it was updating. so I figured, all good.

Ok, will do. Do you by any chance have a link for joining the preview program on that CCU? Thanks in advance.
You can this within the Home app. Device settings and there you will find Preview Program.
I am having the same issue. There is no linking code showing up on my chromecast and there is no "Stadia Controller linking code" option in the Google Home app.
There is no preview program either.
my chromecast firmware version is 1.52.253741
I tried all other suggestions as well including:
putting my stadia controller in 2.4GHZ network while chrome cast in 5.
put both of them in 5
put both of them in 2.4
tried different wireless router to connect the network (I am an separate wireless router as AP)
changed MTU to 1479
disable firewall,
still nothing changed.
stadia controller can connect to the network, it blinks white and vibrate when powered on and later it vibrates again in 10-20s again.
any help/suggestion?
Hello @Ruleof3
Can you confirm that you have a Chromecast Ultra from Google? That firmware version (1.52.253741) seems to correspond to the Android TV built-in Chromecast, which doesn't (yet) work with Stadia. If you are seeing this on a Chromecast Ultra, that would be somewhat puzzling, since it also doesn't match either the stable or preview versions here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7124014?hl=en
it looks like you are right but I am also very disappointed with this situation.
The whole chromecast ultra vs tv story is not clear on the google store.
I had the stadia controller and I wanted to play on my TV so I decided to buy chromecast ultra.
there were only 2 options available @ https://store.google.com/product/chromecast_google_tv_compare?hl=en-US
now that I see , it says stadia will be available in the first half of 2021, I did not pay attention to this at that time. After all, I did not see any chromecast ultra product and assumed that the new one should be the replacement of that old product. How silly I was ![]()
Anyway, thank you for checking and letting me know. I was one step away of doing network packet analysis.
Hi I have the exact same problems as the othe guy, not seeing option to show linking code and I got my CCU direct from google.
Tried everything, reboots, factory resets, on same WiFi I have another CCU upstairs that works fine with the controller and all. But with this new CCU stadia app won’t see it but Google home does, however I have now option to see linking code:
fW: 1.49.25 etc
Hello @Rossawilson1
That firmware version (1.49.250946) appears to correspond to a non-Ultra (1080p) Chromecast: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7124014?hl=en
If you bought this from Google recently, was it as part of a Stadia Premiere bundle, or was it just a Chromecast? If it was the latter, then that would be a non-Ultra Chromecast, which doesn't support Stadia. The Stadia Premiere bundle is the only way to still get new Chromecast Ultra units.
Hi guys, having this exact issue right now both stadia controllers cannot link to my ccu at our summer holidays house firmware on this ccu is 1.50.250947
At my other ccu at home had no problems linking to my ccu and in google home i see the firmware is 1.50.250947 the exact same
Did a factory reset on the ccu in my holidsys house and now the stadia controller code disappeared on the main screen
If someone can point in what to do ill be grateful, both controllers work perfectly on my phone.
