Hi, I'm struggling playing a few games on stadia notably the division 2 and wreckfest without encountering sounds issues.
I never used to have the issue prior to Android 11 - SHIELD EXPERIENCE UPGRADE 9.0 being applied to both my original nvidia shield and newer nvidia shield cylinder. The cylinder is connected to a TV in the bedroom and the older original nvidia shield is connected to a 5.1 surround setup via an AV Reciever. Both experience exactly the same problem.
Both shields are hard wired to my pfsense router and I'm also a stadia pro subscriber. I am only streaming at 1080p as not upgraded tvs to 4k yet. The problem isn't resolved by switching to 720p either in the stadia app.
I've messed about with all the sound settings in the shield and stadia app itself. The video is perfect nice and smooth, it's just the sound is crap, high pitched popping and crackling on some of the effects. Wreckfest it's the engine sound that's distorted, in The Division 2 it is the gun sounds and drone noises.
It's spoiling my gaming. I logged in this weekend to stadia on my laptop and the sound plays perfectly fine through it, so I believe it is down to some bug in the stadia app related to the Android 11 upgrade.
If anyone can offer some advice it would be much appreciated.
@Salty Judging from the version number it looks like yours is even newer than the one in the subreddit. Have you tried posting in the Nvidia's community forum and also try to reach out to their support? Worth a shot.

You can also submit feedback to the Stadia team by submitting feedback through the app.
I don't have Nvidia Shield TV unfortunately, so can't really help test, but hopefully you'll find a solution soon. Hopefully if anyone else with the device happen to see this post as well and can give some guidance.
@Ivan After signing up my cylinder serial number to the nividia website I now find myself on the following version, however the issue is still the same, no improvement at all. There is also no feedback option on the Stadia Android TV app, at least the version that runs on the shield. Seems a major omission to reporting problems on that platform. It's not easy to report via the playstore either when reporting against android tv, as no option to send feedback there either.
I've not posted on the nvidia forums, will give it a go.
Ideally need Google to replicate the issue in house and then take it from there to address a fix and contact nvidia if it is an OS issue.
@Salty have you applied the latest hotfix by any chance? I did some Googling and found a few cases where users were encountering issues with Stadia after applying Shield Experience Upgrade 9.0, although it's not exactly the same issue.
Then I found this Reddit post - https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/comments/sfdqa3/shield_experience_9_android_11_hotfix_3/ and one of the fix is audio related. Perhaps it's worth a shot if you haven't applied the hotfix? Keep in mind there's no way to roll back to before the hotfix though.
That's the version I'm on. I have hotfix on original shield downstairs, I have just applied for it for cylinder. Not sure to be honest what is latest version.

@Ivan I've dropped a message on the Shield TV forum, I doubt I will get anywhere as hardly a mention of stadia on the whole site.
To demonstrate the issue I am experiencing I've recorded the output I am hearing from the TV and I've also recorded the output from the 30 second game capture option built into stadia over the same period. Night and day difference on the sound, so frustrating.
Phone recording of The Division 2 Sound Effect Issue - video is heavily compressed by google photos. There is garbled techno popping sounds all the time, the more of a fire fight you are in the more popping and crackling you hear.

@Salty I think it's great that you recorded these videos, because it basically shows the issue. It might also be worth it to post on the Nvidia TV subreddit. It seems the sub is pretty active so there may be someone else facing the same issue, or even Nvidia employees notice the post (not sure if it's an official sub)

I'll be honest, I don't know how effective it would be to post on the Nvidia forums/sub, but we won't know unless we try right? Can't win a lottery if we don't buy a ticket ![]()
