Xbox Series X controller not working right on Android TV Stadia app

I don't know if this is an issue with my specific setup, or with the Stadia app. I have an Xbox Series X controller linked to my nVidia Shield TV. It's usually wired, but I tried via bluetooth for this as well. Everything works as expected for native Android games, as well as with the Steam Link to my computer. But when playing Stadia, I'm unable to use the d-pad for normal gameplay. For example, if I try to move with the d-pad (in a game like Celeste or Bloodstained) and then press a button to jump, the d-pad stops registering until I let go and press it again. This means my character's momentum comes to a halt as soon as I hit jump or attack buttons, and makes it impossible to jump or dash in a direction other than neutral.

The games work fine with a Stadia controller, but I hate to have two different controllers on hand for the same device. Has anyone seen this before, and do you know of any possible resolutions?

Both my Shield and the Stadia app are fully up to date, as is the firmware on my Xbox controller.

The only workaround I can think of is to use the phone link option if you have an android mobile device. The Series X controller isn't officially compatible with Stadia, thats why you're finding some weird glitches.  Using the phone link option should fix that for you though.
