Hello team,
I have only used the Stadia app for about a month now and just tried to connect my Xbox controller to the app. The controller showed connection just fine and works on the main screens. However trying to use it once I open any game such as wreckfest or Assassin's Creed the game won't accept the controller. Is this possible a user error and I need to follow up in the setting somewhere I over looked or is it possible something to do with the controller. Any advice on how to fix this would be great. Thanks guys.
@High22Flyn So Xbox Series X controller is actually not officially supported, but I just tried it out (same scenario except with Series X controller) and it works just fine. I also compared the Stadia app version that you provided and it's the same with what I have on mine.
Have you tried using the Xbox Series X controller to play non Stadia games? Also can you confirm if it's the official version of the controller (not 3rd party)? Do you have any other controller that you can try to play Stadia on? Just trying to find the root cause.
Also, your phone is not officially supported to play on Stadia, but most of the time this is not really an issue. Can you try enabling the experimental feature on your phone?
Which game controller is it specifically?
There are Xbox 360 models, xbox one with adapter, xbox one with bluetooth and xbox series with bluetooth.
Is it an original or a generic one? What connection method do you use? (wired, bluetooth, etc).
You comment that it is in the app, on which device?, mobile perhaps?
Do you have any button remapping application or similar? That could interfere perhaps. Even some phones may have a game mode or similar that can sometimes make it difficult to detect some peripheral or application operation.
I have an Xbox 1 controller that connects via Bluetooth. And I'm on Android using the mobile app. I have nothing that I know of for button remapping as I'm not 100% sure how to do that. I just bought the controller yesterday for this. I also use the mobile to view the game. I don't cast the screen to any other devices.
@High22Flyn I just tried connecting my Xbox One controller to my Android phone through Bluetooth and tried playing Wreckfest, and it works as intended
Some follow up questions if that's ok with you.
The more information we get, the better we'll be able to assist you ![]()
@Ivan so I went back and looked, it's actually a Series X controller I bought if that makes much difference. The app version is 4.29.466841927 and is up to date. I have tried connecting it prior to loading up stadia or the game as well as afterwards and I get no where. My phone is the T Mobile Revvl V+

@Ivan The controller works on 2 other non stadia apps one being Minecraft. The controller is officially an Xbox series x and not any type of third party. I do not have any other type of controller that I can try without buying a new one. And I do have play on this device activated already
@High22Flyn Thanks for the info. So from the information we gathered so far it looks like the difference between your case and my case is the phone (I tried in on Pixel 6 Pro). Not sure if that's the root cause, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to get a new phone just for Stadia.
It might be worth to try reinstalling the Stadia app, and also re-pair the controller and see if it works.
I will also ask around and see if anyone else have more ideas to try.
@Ivan Thanks for the help bud. Sounds to me like I'm just gonna have to wait for an update that supports my controller and phone type
Sorry to jump in here at the end, but did you download the app from the PlayStore or from elsewhere?
@ViviFFIX I got it from the playstore. I also just bought a Xbox 1 controller and now it won't work for any of my apps. Kinda starting to think that it's the phone that is my issue
@High22Flyn Did you buy the official Xbox One controller? And by apps do you mean Stadia games or something else? Did you use cable or bluetooth to connect to your phone?
@Ivan https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.stadia.android that is the app I have and the 2 controllers currently own are and Xbox one dusk shadow controller and a moga xp5-x+ by powerA for Xbox
@High22Flyn So I did a bit of research and found some stuff and I want to confirm with you first.
The moga xp5-x+ controller isn't officially supported, so there may be issues.
The dusk shadow controller is an official Xbox One controller, but can you confirm if this is the one that you have?

There are actually two versions of Xbox One controllers. One that connect wirelessly through bluetooth, and one that needs an adapter if you want to connect wirelessly to non Xbox devices.
If the one you have is the same as the one shown in the link above, you need an adapter to play wirelessly so it's not possible to do it with Stadia app on your phone. However, you can still use cable to connect the controller to your phone.
Here's an article from Microsoft that explains the difference. The difference can be noticed by how the top part of the controller is shaped up
Can you at least try and see if you can connect your dusk shadow controller to your phone using cable? You will need a cable that support the input for both the controller and your phone.
@Ivan I have tried it wired to the phone. However it does not work still. I do have the Bluetooth one and it won't work through stadia for ark, wreckfest or Assassin's Creed black flag. I've tried it for cod mobile and no luck and I've tried it for Minecraft mobile which it does work fine on that with both controllers. I tried dead trigger 2 asphalt 9 and ark directly downloaded from the play store and got nothing.
There are controller tester app on the app store, could you try downloading one and check to see if the controller isn't sending an input or whether the inputs are incorrectly mapped?
@ViviFFIX https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chimera.saturday.evogamepadtester this is the tester I downloaded and used and it shows everything is working as intended. I hooked it up Bluetooth to my brothers android device and it will not work with his phone either. I have never had a problem using an Xbox 1 controller with my phone before now. I even tried it in my wife's iphone 13 and it failed to work there as well. This is with 3 different controllers
