Stadia app on Android TV Philips PUS7354 have no surround

Jump to Best Response

Hi there, i have recently bought a Philips PUS7354 and every app like disney+, netflix, prime and plex send DTS/ATMOS/DD/DD+ to my receiver via HDMI ARC, if i play stadia on the app downloaded from playstore it say "5.1 unsupported by device"...
I have tried everything, like settings on the TV Multichannel HDMI Passthrough and Multichannel with tv decoding but nothing change...
If i connect a CCU on the receiver i have 5.1 withouth problem, but i preferet to use app on the tv for many reasons...
Can someone help me to find out how to solve the problem?

Hello @kvegeta

HDMI ARC can only carry compressed 5.1 channel audio that has been encoded in a handful of formats, all of which are designed to work well with streaming video playback. Stadia uses a compression format optimized for low latency, but this format is not supported by HDMI ARC (or eARC, for that matter). So, the Stadia client decodes this into PCM (uncompressed) audio, which doesn't fit in the HDMI ARC connection (it would fit in eARC, but there may be other issues with getting that to work from the Stadia app on a smart TV). In short, if you want 5.1 channel audio from Stadia, either a CCU or a CCwGTV connected directly to your receiver will be required for the time being.

I'm not aware of any TVs that support 5.1 channel Stadia audio today. That doesn't mean it's technically impossible, but eARC on both the TV and receiver would be a requirement. Without that, it's not happening (barring some major changes by Google on the back end).

Ok, but you are talking about CCU o CCwGTV... i'm talking about the television itself, i know that many other televisions can send 5.1 surround sound from stadia to the AV Receiver...

The TV would still need to use ARC or eARC to send 5.1 channel sound to the receiver, even if it's using the built-in Stadia app instead of a CCU or the Stadia app running on a CCwGTV.

I'm using ARC hdmi from tv to the AV Receiver...
Every HDMI on my tv have ARC support (i have Dolby Atmos/DTS/DTS-HD/DD working on the av receiver with the same connection on any other apps)

ARC cannot carry 5.1 channels of PCM audio. It only has capacity for 2 channels (stereo) PCM or 5.1 channels using a compression format that isn't used by Stadia.

May i change output format?
I have seen that i can change my CCU Surround output settings in the Google Home App, but the Built-in Chromecast in the TV doesn't appear in my Google Home app...

It wouldn't matter. ARC can't carry 5.1 channels of decoded audio. I can go into the details more deeply if you are really interested, but it isn't going to change the result. If you want 5.1, use something plugged directly into the receiver so ARC isn't a limitation.

This could theoretically get better in the future, if your TV and receiver both support eARC and Google puts some effort into improving the TV app and the TV manufacturer makes it possible. That's a lot of conditions that all have to line up, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sorry but you are wrong... on LG it comes with surround sound 5.1 (webOs) and on Sony with Android TV
