Can't connect account from Stadia APP to Chromecast

Jump to Best Response

Chromecast Ultra setup on wireless and working. Stadia Controller set up and connected and working. Stadia App setup and working. Select ADD ACCOUNT TO CHROMECAST, No devices found. All on the same wifi. Suggestions?

I finally found a solution.  From the Stadia iPhone app, launch a game and select the Chromecast ultra from the dropdown.  Doing that will bring up the "all this app to connect to devices on the network" prompt which you need to allow/agree to.  Once you've successfully launched a game your Stadia account will be linked to the Chromecast Ultra.

Edit: The next time I tried to connect, it once again told me to add my Stadia account to my Chromecast via the Stadia app on iPhone, but now it was in the list; I believe since I had already launched a game via step above.

Have you turned on your controller (Stadia button), and linked it to the TV using the button press code displayed on your chromecast screen?

The app wont pick it up as a compatible device until the CCU is in this mode it seem.

I'm stuck on the next stage, so will keep my fingers crossed for you

I'm having a secondary problem past this, and someone in another thread has mentioned that they solved the issue by ensuring they use the chromecast Ultra that came with the controller.

I've not tried it yet (am at work). But I am indeed using my existing CCU.

May not be relevant to your issue, but if your using one that didn't come with it, try ensuring you use the one in the box

Would be interested to see if it helps. Good luck

Edit. Just realised @neil_fifteen has mentioned this above also. Deffo worth a try

Yeah, I only have the one Chromecast that comes with the controller. I finally got it to work by doing it on my iPad instead of my iPhone. Maybe it has something to do with an iPhone???

Ah I tried that to no avail  Tried two different iPads running on two different versions of iOS and same results

For me it was the Chromecast version

"You can check if your Chromecast Ultra can run Stadia by checking if it's running version 1.42.180348 or above."

If you're using an existing Ultra, it probably won't work. Use the one that shipped with your Stadia. It baffled me at first. If you are, at least it rules it out.

I had this same exact problem. Force stop the Stadia app in your phone settings then try again. It fixed it right away for me

I have tried everything on the list out there. Is there any new solution?

Yup same boat here, every thing set up but now I’m just stuck on my tv screen telling me to use the stadia app to add account to chromecast but when I use the app it just says “no nearby chromecasts are ready to add account”

Same situation here. Brand new bundle with Chromecast Ultra and I'm trying to complete setup from an iPhone - I assume that's the issue for some reason. Is there no other way to link than via an Android device?

This is 100% the fix for this issue! Google really should call this specific issue and solution out somewhere - in the troubleshooting guide from that screen would be a good start??

I was having this same problem setting up my system using an iPhone. I was able to resolve the problem by going into Settings > Stadia > Local Network > setting it to ON. It seems there is an iOS permission required and at the time of this writing, the Stadia app did not prompt for access to Local Network. Once that setting was turned on, my CCU showed up to link with my account.

After two days of trying to add my account to my chromecast, this solution worked. Thank you! Why this setting was turned off I do not know.

Can’t thank you enough. I had to go to my old Iphone 6s to make it happen, since Iphone Pro Max didn’t work.

Well chrome cast does not pop up on in iPhone when you launch a game because you have to add an account. Only thing that shows is find a way to play with an ok button which sends you back to the stadia app home.

How did you get the games to play from iPhone? I go to my iPhone and there’s no drop down window to choose anything.

It tells me to use an approved device to launch stadia and I can’t from my iPhone

I had the same problem, from the iPhone the Stadia app does not let me play or link my account with the CCU. I solved the two in different ways:

1.) To play on the iPhone I opened the Stadia website in the safari browser and I logged in using my credentials. Then you can play using your iPhone also works with a Controller. For easier access, you can add the Stadia webpage to the home screen.

2.) Linking my account with the CCU I had to use an android phone, I don't know why it didn't leave me to do it with the iPhone but after this, I was able to use the Stadia app on my iPhone to launch the games in the CCU.

Go to iPhone settings, stadia, then allow local network access

I had this issue crop up when I upgraded my Xfinity internet and hooked up the new advanced gateway cable modem router. After hours of headaches a google support rep helped me setup port forwarding for the chromecast to be able to broadcast correctly outside the LAN apparently (I presume that the stadia API and chromecast communicate over WAN not just the LAN). Here’s how I set it up:

Port Forwarding option:

These ports are required for playing games on Stadia.

Transmission control protocol (TCP) and User datagram protocol (UDP) are ports in range 44700 - 44899.

Optionally you can update your DNS to Googles DNS servers (I didn’t end up needing to do this)

You may also change your DNS server to Google DNS

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

i had the same issue and tried all sorts of suggestions. The resolution ended being very elementary. Go to your stadia app settings on the mobile and make sure your local network connection option is on.
