Audio distortion

I have searched and seen this same issue posted a few times sporadically on here but now I'm experiencing it too: it's an audio distortion/crackles/pops/sounds that one might imagine a bad lsd trip would use as a soundtrack. I've tried various configurations, devices, Bluetooth headphones or straight speaker, the app and the browser, 4g, 5g, home wifi, it's all the same. And every game has this same issue, to varying degrees, all of which though are a no-go for me.

Anybody ever land on a definitive answer on this issue?

@Dummy It sounds like you've tried different possibilities! Just curious, can you let me know which devices you've tried so far, and which games? I want to see if I can replicate it.

Also what would be helpful is to record your gameplay and see if the crackles can be heard from the recording. If that's the case, can you share it with me? I think it would help to understand exactly what you're experiencing.

@Dummy I did hear some audio stuttering, and it usually happens when my internet connection is not steady. I noticed you have visual jitters as well. Which device were you playing the game from? Are you on a stable network? Are you using VPN?

@Ivan yeah, I noticed that too while I was playing. Which is weird because normally, there isn't anything like that no matter what I play on from home. My home wifi is 5ghz, wifi6, I'm pretty sure it's fiber because it's symmetrical up and down at around 140mbps. I'll do a speed test and post the results. I don't use a VPN though. And the internet is provided by the management i rent from so I don't have admin access to the hardware but it physically resides in my 600sf apartment. The device I was using while taking that video is a Motorola edge+

  • @Ivan These are pictures I just took of the network test results taken by my Xbox one that's on the same network.

@Dummy Thanks for providing the speed test from your Xbox, but it's usually not a good indicator of your Stadia performance. The important factor is the speed and latency from your location to the nearest Stadia data center. Where are you located btw? We don't know for sure the location of Stadia data center, but as long as you live in the supported countries, then technically it should be fine.

Also your phone is not listed under supported devices https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9578631 which means there's a possibility you'll get some hiccups. Are you able to play Stadia games from somewhere else? Like through your computer and/or TV using Chromecast Ultra or Chromecast for Google TV? Just want to make sure the device isn't the issue.

@Ivan hey there again, and yeah, you're totally right about what you said, but since there's no way that I know of to do any kind of connection test directly to Google's infrastructure, I figured a latency/speed test of SOME kind would at least be helpful in possibly elimating one or two things on the troubleshooting list. Am I wrong in that? I live in Oregon, about 40 miles from Portland. And if I remember correctly, Google has a massive amount of presence as far as networking goes, when compared to any other company doing the same thing. And yes, I am aware that my device isn't on the official list of compatible devices but I've been using non-compatible device since day #1 as a stadia subscriber and haven't really had any issues to speak of until this.

An interesting thing though, I might've misspoke as far as me having tested it on a browser. Maybe I haven't since this audio issue started. But I just tried playing on chrome from this same phone and it worked perfectly. I also use stadia on another phone, a revvl 5g and an ONN Android 4k tv box. So, now we have a common denominator- the app. It seems that wherever I'm using the app to access stadia, there's that audio issue.

@Dummy Well at least we're getting somewhere :slightly_smiling_face: I still think it may be related to the fact that the phone is unsupported, but there can be something else. Which version of the Stadia app you're currently using? I assume you already checked from the Play store that there's no more update for the app?
