I received the most recent Stadia Android app update (dated 15th January in the Play Store - I live in the UK if this is of any significance) a couple of days ago and since updating the app when I scroll up or down both in the store page and the home page a black box/rectangle appears in the centre of the screen filling the page from left to right. This issue makes it difficult to navigate.
Closing the app and loading it up again does not resolve the issue however if the app is left open after a couple of minutes or so the problem goes away. Anyone else have this problem and is there a way to fix it. Many thanks.
Hello @Baz,
You could try clearing the cache and local storage of the app.
Thanks for the suggestion @RXShorty but this didn't resolve the issue.
Hi @Baz -- have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app? Give that a shot and let us know if you have any luck.
@ChrisFromGoogle Doing this hasn't resolved the issue. I forgot to mention in my original post that this issue occurs both in landscape and portrait orientation, as well as inside of all menus/pages
In landscape pretty much all of the screen is taken up by the box whereas in portrait roughly 1/4.
Edit: I've tried to take a screenshot but haven't been able to capture a screen showing the box, also recording screen (video) does not show the box on playback. I hope this is useful info.
I've updated the app from the Play store and still experience this problem. Can anyone at Stadia offer any further advice. (The flagged "Best Response" does not resolve the issue).
Hi again @Baz. Unfortunately, if the above has not been helpful to you, it seems like the issue might be local with your device. Are you able to test with any other devices?
I don't have another device to test on.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could possibly cause this type of issue? Another app or specific device setting etc...? Like I said, this problem started when downloading the update in January from the Play store. I haven't received a device software update since then.
I'm sorry to hear that, Baz. Without another device, it is very tough to establish a baseline.
Is it safe to assume that this does not happen on a browser session?
This only happens on the Android app.
Here's my device specs if at all useful:
Redmi Note 5, 4GB RAM, Octa-core Max 1.80GHZ.
Android version: 9PKQ1.180904.001.
MIUI Global 12.0.2 Stable.
I don't have a desktop/PC, only alternative is to use my mobile web browser in desktop mode which is not ideal when it comes to browsing, having to zoom in and out when navigating the store for example. I don't fancy having to buy another phone just to use the Stadia app. Frustrated!
Hi again, I understand and sympathize with your frustration. In the Stadia app settings, try enabling Experimental mode by navigating to the "Experiments" option, then signing up. It may help, but it may also not. If it does not help, please make sure to file feedback in the app and repeat everything you have mentioned here -- your device specifications, the issue and its scope, and how long it has persisted. Additionally, make sure to get a record of your experience with our Support Team so that your case can be referenced later, if necessary.
I'm sorry you are going through this! My aim is to help as much as I can.
