[Android] App continues to crash after 1 minute (ongoing issue)

Jump to Best Response

For almost 2 months now, every time I open the Stadia app on my phone the app crashes after approximately 1 minute. This makes it impossible to reply to people over the app or play any games on the go.

Things I've tried:

  • Tested with multiple phones
  • Wiped Stadia app cache
  • Deleted Stadia app data
  • Wiped Google Play Store app cache
  • Deleted Google Play Store app data
  • Tested with different internet connections

No matter what I try, the app can no longer work for longer than a minute before crashing. At this point, I feel like there is some bug with my account or my settings that needs to be pinpointed in case other people have the same issues. Does anyone else run into this problem or know anything I could try?

Thanks for the reply, I think here that you could try the following for the app on both phones and see if this works then again for you:

  • Walk through all the steps you haven't tried so far (you mentioned you only tried to delete app cache & data) from this article: Fix an installed Android app that isn't working
    • Especially interesting (because they help often in weird app behaviour issues) here are the restart, checking for Android updates, update the app and reinstall the app (delete it and install again).

If that doesn't help, maybe it's an idea to try out the Android 12 Beta and see if the issue exists on there still. I saw there that the Beta is especially for Pixel phones, but Google does also state it's available for some "other manufacturers" as well, so this might be an idea that popped into my mind for you. Just have in mind that Beta-versions are also instable, but if you have a device that allows to try it, would be worth to go for I believe.

If that's not possible, maybe your best bet is to check the issue out with the Stadia support. Especially because you have the problem on both of your devices with your Google account sounds a bit weird to me and could also have something to do with your account itself, therefore it's a good idea to get in contact with them to see if they have any additional troubleshooting for you or can find out if this is a bug for you.

Hey @TheRealTime,

Sorry to hear you're having this issue with the Stadia app constantly crashing on your device.

Which device are you actually using and with which Android version?

You've mentioned you tried different phones already, were these different manufacturers and different Android versions too?

I'm using a Galaxy Note 10+ and a Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G. Both are using the latest version of Android 11. This is not an issue I had a few months ago and could freely use the app on both phones.

Has it worked for you yet? My main account has been doing this for almost a year and still no fix, I created a alternate account and it works just fine, but the problem is I accumulated so many good games on my main account.

Nope. It's been over a year and a half since I've been able to use the Stadia app properly. I've contacted the Stadia support team and after back and forth emails for 8 months they have absolutely no clue what the issue could be. They claim they are currently tackling a bug that may be contributing to the problem, but it's been over half a year since our last communication on the issue with no progress.

Needless to say, I am incredibly disappointed.

Same issues here. I try to avoid using the app.

It is definitely an account issue.
