Hello! I'm trying to figure out if I can play local multiplayer on my chromecast ultra using a stadia controller and a ps4 controller. I found some tutorials online that explain you can open the chromecast menu with the remote, go to the device management menu and simply pair your ps4 controller. The problem is... I got chromecast ultra with Stadia and I don't have a remote ![]()
I can pair the ps4 controller to my built-in android tv, but Stadia is not available there yet (and there is significant input lag).
But I can't seem to access the same menu in my chromecast ultra, neither the Home app nor the Android TV remote app seem to do that (the latter will just ignore my chromecast ultra and just see my built-in android tv).
Any suggestion on how I can open the chromecast ultra menu without using a remote I was never provided with in the first place?
Because for now, whenever I set the tv to HDMI to see my chromecast ultra, all I get is the main slideshow screen and the possibility to access Stadia with the Stadia controller code, but no menu option whatsoever.
Hi @Zan,
The tutorials you found use the Chromecast with Google TV (aka android TV) and use the stadia app side loaded.
You can use tandem mode on the stadia controller but that will use the PS4 controller as the stadia controller. Tandem mode allows you to use any other controller on the chromecast ultra through the stadia controller
The setup would look like this: PS4 controller -> micro-b to usb-c cable -> stadia controller
After that you would connect the stadia controller to the Chromecast ultra as you would normally and play using the ps4 controller. Do note that using tandem mode both controllers act like one controller.
@Zan Currently, Yes that is the only way. That could always change in the future. There was a idea about using the stadia app sort of like a non stadia controller hub to play on a chromecast ultra. Which has been brought up here. If you like the idea that was suggested please do remember to send feedback.

Thanks for your reply @ShadowKnight !
When you say "Do note that using tandem mode both controllers act like one controller." do you mean that is't basically useless for playing local multiplayer?
Yes I do. Unless you want to play "who is controlling the character now?" or want to do split controller where one player uses one side and the other wants to use the other side only.
@ShadowKnight got it, thanks. So the only way to play local multiplayer on chromecast ultra is to buy another stadia controller?

@ShadowKnight I see no particular evil in that since other consoles work in the exact same way, but it would be great if more flexibility could be added in the future. Anyway, thanks for the clarifications!
