couch co-op in the cloud ?

ok so bare with me. I'm not sure if this was an officially announced coming soon feature or something that was speculated based on code tear downs. but I remember reading about a feature where I could invite a friend to load up stadia and join me in a co-op game (even if they didn't own the game). which would amount to the same as playing couch co-op, just not physically in the same place.

Is there any more information on this somewhere or did I just dream this up?

Hey @ChaosTheory,

I personally don't remember hearing about that feature from the Stadia team, but I love your idea!  Either way, you should let the Stadia team know by using the Feedback feature right inside the Stadia app.  If you click on your avatar profile icon, you'll then see the feedback option.

That would be really cool if that feature was added though!

Hello @ChaosTheory,

Like @MrVacca, I don't remember that info too.

I think you're talking about the Crowd Play feature but it's not quite the same.

See here for more infos.

Hi @ChaosTheory,

I am afraid that is not going to be possible with the current setup.
Every cloud game instance requires one license.

You will notice this concept when sharing games within your Google Family.
When you share games within your family every owned copy comes with one license.
So I think it is up to game developers if they allow multi user with one license.
And from Stadia's perspective they have to provide 2 gaming streams for one license.
Both impacts are costly so I don't expect it to happen anytime soon... :face_with_rolling_eyes:

I understand my brother and I can't play two separate instances of cyberpunk at the same time because of licenses. but with respect, i think that is completely irrelevant to what i was thinking about. I can play Trine 4 co-operatively on my couch with one license. my scenario just means both people are in different places. ok but now there are two streams? well, stadia base tier streams for free. game licenses are not related to streams or stream quality. I'm sure there's a reason this hasn't been done, but I think game licensing has little to do with it.

So, Luna just announced this exact feature i was looking for:

So is there really a crazy reason stadia couldn't do the same thing?

Hey ChaosTheory,

We first heard about this feature in June but it was only meant for local couch co-op where Player 2 can sign in with their account. If player 2 doesn't own the game yet. Player 2 can have his progress saved and can continue the progress when he purchases later the game. There is still no speculation on whether they'll make something similar to Luna's feature or Steam's Remote Play (same feature on steam).

I personally think this is one of the most important features to look forward too, and if for some reason Stadia chooses not to implement it for licensing I might switch ships to Luna.
