Hi everybody,
A reminder that most existing (not-bundled) Chromecast devices will not support Stadia until they're updated over the next few weeks. You can check if your Chromecast Ultra can run Stadia by checking if it's running version 1.42.180348 or above. If your Chromecast is not on that version, attempting to play games on that Chromecast will fail until it receives the upcoming Stadia update. For now, we recommend using the Chromecast Ultra in your bundle to play.
Yes, I turned on the option to receive the preview builds.
Spent far too much time trying to play with my existing chromecast ultra. There should have been a warning in the box or have programmed into the app to run a check on the firmware version!
For me it was the Chromecast version. Hope it fixes for the others.
I did the same. I have 3 of them around the house and was losing my mind why it wasn't working. Haha.
Just releasing the update beforehand would have been good. Plus it would have been something to have done whilst waiting for launch.
Indeed, something in the app to identify the version and notify to say that it is before a specific version would have been nice.
Lessons learned..
Is there a timeline for when we can expect other Chromecast devices to support Stadia, including Gen 2, 3, and those built in to Android TV?
Hey @GraceFromGoogle overheating seems to be developing into a huge issue with a few minutes of game play, locking, resetting, and persistently seems to be developing into something worse.
Someone on the Reddit group for Stadia mentioned he was able to update his CCU and play Stadia on it and left instructions on how to do so. I'm not endorsing doing it since idk if it's breaking any Google rules to do so. But I'm just saying it exists.
@Dinn The method is basically opting for the preview program. It's definitely not breaking any Google rules and safe to do so.
Thanks for posting. I have the same problem. Given my TV configuration its not practical to move my Chromecast from room to room, hence the second CC Ultra
Hello @GraceFromGoogle, I am looking for some guidance here. I bought and used The Founder’s edition in the USA. I have since moved to Germany (and travel a significant amount which is what interested me in Stadia). Unfortunately in the move I lost the Chromecast Ultra that was originally shipped to my USA address. Now that I am in Germany, which Chromecast Ultra should I be using? Is one even available seeing as I purchased the Founder’s Edition? Any direction, URL, and/or replacement help is greatly appreciated.

The new Vizio TVs will coming out in just a few weeks. Is there any chance that the built-in Chromecast Ultras in these TVs will be Stadia-ready? If not, does Google have a plan for this?
I'm trying to determine what game platform I want to build on. The XBOX supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and has bluray player - my existing LG player is getting loud and will likely die soon. Changing out its HDMI for an Xbox will keep my number of devices the same and I get real Atmos. With Stadia, I may have to buy a Chromecast Ultra when one is already built-in to the TV (just asinine to me!), no word on Atmos (I'll likely have to upscale 5.1), and no blu-ray player.
Yes, Stadia has some advantages. I like it. But when can we expect such simple stuff as firmware updates? Stadia has been years in the making. Surely the chromecast devices and firmware you license to third parties would have Stadia support by now. If they don't, then I would assume greedy motives or incompetence, and neither is going to make me buy into a system.
So ... Vizio Chromecast for the H models released soon? Dolby Atmos support?
How do I check which version my chromecast ultra is running on? It's from founders edition.
Looked everywhere, also on the 4k hdr tv in stadia menu's. Can't find anything.
Is this the not functional one? HDR and 4k doesn't function on pro account.
Hi @Greenhill -- if you are unable to achieve HDR and 4K with your Chromecast Ultra, it could be for a number of reasons:
Hope this helps!
Hello Chris,
I did reach out for support twice, went on Reddit, asked around. I got zero help.
It did not. I moved my Chromcast ultra off the old TV (TCL Roku) and onto the new (Samsung TV) Ever since i get distortion, connection cut-offs etc.
@ChrisFromGoogle wrote:Hi @Greenhill -- if you are unable to achieve HDR and 4K with your Chromecast Ultra, it could be for a number of reasons:
- 4K/HDR/5.1 are features exclusive to Stadia Pro, so if you are not currently subscribed, that is the answer
- Your connection is unstable and/or insufficient to achieve 4K. In this case, please check that your connection is strong and capable of supporting 4K. If on wireless, being close to the access point would help.
- Your Chromecast Ultra may be malfunctioning. If you have exhausted all other options, reach out to our Support Team and request additional guidance.
Hope this helps!
I would like to use the new Google TV interface and remote without having to buy a whole new device, one for Stadia and one for Google TV. Does anyone know if that is going to be coming? I realize I would have to buy a remote. I know that I could buy the new google chromecast + remote package and eventually play stadia on it, but I've read that it doesn't have the same level of resources (memory, cpu I guess) that the Stadia Chromecast does.
Hi @wrliii,
End of this year LG TV's will come with Stadia pre-installed.
Also this year there will be Stadia support for the latest Chromecast with Google TV. According to some sources the first half of this year.
To be honest I think the latest Chromecast should play Stadia games just fine. You can read some early on hands-on experience on Reddit, which seems to be just fine.
And maybe by supporting the Chromecast with Google TV on it can bring Stadia to more Google TV devices? This is just speculation though...
So this Google TV...What is the difference?
I'm having connection issues on my new Samsung TV. I looked up a bunch of troubleshooting and Google TV kept coming up. To me, this does not solve my issue.
Hi @Honesty21
You are reacting on a pretty old topic, not sure what your question is?

The link you sent me to, was not in my spoken tongue.
hi grace
Stadia came with controller and power brick, CCU and power/ethernet brick.
If I upgrade the CCU to Chromecast w/Google TV do I need another power/ethernet brick or will my existing CCU power/ethernet work?
Posted here while I continue to search online.......
Edit. Found my answer, NO.
Ok So the current (mA) output on Chromecast with Google TV power adapter is 1.5A , CCU power adapter is 850mA.
